Yup, haven't been in years but I love going to DCI shows. I marched all 4 years of HS and a lot of my friends from band went on to corps.

I know a number of people who did it when younger, and some that work for Corps now.

I marched at the end of HS (I played FB at the beginning; Knee 2.0 isn't as good as Knee 1.0, and Mom wasn't happy, so...) and in College, but I never got the DC appeal. Maybe because I liked having spending money and didn't enjoy long bus rides across the country. (Caveat: I can* play trumpet, so I could have done it...)

I -do- appreciate the skill that goes into it, and the attention to detail. That has always been the biggest beef I have with bands - Dress your lines, dumbasses, it's easy, and the little things really count.

I've got to get the Sax down... Homecoming is in a couple weeks, and us old-timers get out an do what we can with the kids. And playing once a year isn't good for your skillz.

*-'Could' is probably a better term. I gave the Trumpet to my Cousin a couple decades ago, and my attempt at Taps on my Bugle the other day did not go terribly well.

A couple of the DCI bands have done rehearsals near me.  The HS band tries to go and check them out.  Both of my boys are in the band and really enjoy watching DCI performances although they have no desire to try out. Several of their friends have marched with DCI.

Man I can't believe I'm the only one on here that still marches.  I march in DCA and have been with the Hawthorne Caballeros going on my third year.

A kid I went to high school with marches with the Music City Drum and Bugle Corps. I marched all four years of high school and had a love-hate relationship with it. After seeing some drum corps come to a local high school, I have a new found appreciation for it. My personal favorite corps is Phantom Regiment.

I marched in Drum corps back in the 70s. We would do parades and competitions. It was fun for a while, then I got bored. It lasted a few years. We were awarded a bunch of trophies and medals.

Wife was tour director for Boston for 4 years, prior to that she marched with Boston and was with the Cadets in 2000 when they won Championship.

Marched 4 years in the 90's and have tinkered with senior corps. I miss my drum corps days.

Great experience, but altered my passions and long term goals.

Man. I want to but I don't have the time, money or physical shape to do it lol marched all 4 years in Hs, graduate in may, and kinda think it'd be fun to do especially after going to see dci at the local movie theater. But due to the above and tech school next year I doubt it'll happen lol. Who knows, I plan on keepin up on trumpet thru tech school maybe ill do it then. To the people who've done Dci before, amazing! All the effort and love and dedication goes unnoticed by alot of people. That should change.

Haven't been in over 20 years, but always enjoyed it when the band took a trip. I always remember everyone rooting for Ghost Regiment because they had the coolest name.

You and I have been in the same place at the same time. I was a baritone player in the 1984 Spirit of Atlanta.

(yeah, I know this is an old thread but it is drum corps season now)

I went to the summer music games a few weeks back. The blue coats show is weird.

I've had the pleasure of being present (Federal Infantry Company Escort, US 13th Corps) for a performance by the Federal City Band, not necessarily a drum corps, but they are a big part of it.  Most of their members are in the Armed Services bands, and some are also members of the Old Guard.

I'll be seeing them at DCI East in Allentown, excited to see it.  So far Crown has the best show to see in person.  Loud, fast and in your face.  No proprs, ladders, stages, etc etc....it's kind of refreshing

Yeah, Carolina's show was incredible. It was by far my favorite.
