Driving home tonight I heard Time by Pink Floyd. The lyrics really sunk in. The thought that this could one day be my reality is scary. I'm young and I already see some of these trends developing in my life.

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say

Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
When I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away, across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spell

The tone of the song makes the all too true lyrics that much more haunting. Just wanted to share and see if anyone has any songs that really hit a major life theme like this.

Excellent lyrics and they hit home for me sometime in my late 20s (about 20 years ago).

As someone who is 30 and left home at 18, I too reflect on the lyrics of this song. Although, I really enjoy "Learning to Fly" as a song of reflection.

Floyd did something that musicians today fail to do: write lyrics that have meaning. Glad to see that they're enjoying a renaissance.

I can agree. Nothing has been this well written in 10-15 years. Maybe longer. Today's bands are a joke.

Nobody will ever accuse Def Leppard of being a bunch of poets.

No, you're just listening to the wrong bands. Prog rock especially is one genre where today's bands are putting out some amazing material.

Here's a couple albums to try out:
Haken - The Mountain
Steven Wilson - The Raven That Refused To Sing

LSD is an amazing drug. Steve Jobs went on record as saying "lsd was the most impactful experience of my life"
