For whatever reason Terry Kath of Chicago gets no respect. I guess it's because most of his work was buried under the horns and keyboards but some of this is outstanding.

I can think of a ton of guitarist I would love for someone to take the time to put something like this together. Love him/hate him/ just don't care...some of this is pretty cool. Starts a little slow but hang with it.

That is because Chicago is known for their overuse of brass horns and not guitar work.

Oh, and because Chicago is sappy and cheesy and generally sucks ass.
I'll start giving a shit about what Spike Lee, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have to say about racial injustice when they stop making their living promoting it.

Terry Kath sucked ass on guitar is why he gets no respect.

That being said...Rolling Stone's selection method is pretty fucked up as well.

Lots of Great guitarists that do not make the RS list. Hell...I would NOT want to be on the list.

Here are some guaranteed to not make the list

Blues Saraceno
Tony Macalpine
Michael Schenker
John Norum
Jimi Bell
Amir Derakh
etc, etc, etc

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

Actually, I heard that Jimi Hendrix considered Terry Kath one of the best guitarists he's ever heard. I think that speaks volumes. He was under-rated and very talented. Most people just never heard that talent. Oh, and I used to jam with Jimi's cousin Rikki Hendrix back in the 80's. Rikki was doing a tribute to Jimi and played a lot like him.

Plus I despise Rolling Stone and always have, even when I was out playing for a living.

I ignore "top guitarists" lists in general. I like what I like and I don't need a list put together by an editor or voted on by a bunch of mouth breathers to tell me what I like.

Guitarists always look at these lists and protest. But you hafta take them with a grain of salt. A) They need to seel magazines, which is why you see contemporary 'artists' who have no business even being on these lists ranked really high....to attract current generation readers and B) they don't rank great guitarists....they rank hit makers and then throw a few legit guitarists in to make themselves look knowledgeable and lend themselves some technical credence.

Same crap with drummers, you know how often I see drum magazines dole out Best Of awards every year to the likes of Lars Ulrich, Joey Jordison and Neil Peart? Lars is terrible, Joey is an OK drummer at best, and no offense to neil who is a great drummer and an inspiration to tons of drummers, is nowhere near the top of the heap compared to some of today's drummers and he'd tell you that himself. yet there they are, nabbing the awards every year.

You won't see the guitarist from Chicago show up on any best of lists because nobody knows who he is, he doesn't sell magazines, and he doesn't make the editors look smart if they include him.

Johnny Ramone was on the freaking list in the top 30. Yea he ended up being influential in the punk rock scene but on a all time greats list?? Seriously?? You can watch youtube videos of thousands of people who are better then him.

So this list is worthless.

Muddy Waters # 49
Robert Johnson # 71

its BS.

Wonder where they'd rank him in most influential guitarist.

top 5 probably, there is not one blues guitarist who would say that he wasn't inspired by him personally or wasnt inspired by someone else who was inspired by him. I watched the eric clapton dvd sessions for robert j, and its great to hear him try to figure out some of johnsons music. it makes clapton look like any of us, sitting in front of youtube watching, insert artist here, and trying to get a song down pat. its just really cool.
