Howdy y'all... So I'm interested in getting into sUAS flying and the first step seems to be getting the Part 107 Pilot certification. I glanced at some practice tests and the FCC study guide, and half of the stuff I remember learning 12 years ago as a CAP cadet and during their flight academy, and the other half I'm not sure of. Like reading a weather report... I did not remember learning that before I soloed!

Do you think this is stuff I could brush up on and learn the difference, or should I go through one of the ground school courses?

I can't relate to your situation directly as I did the abbreviated online course because I already have a Part 61 certificate.

I spent about and hour completing the curriculum and test. Much of it is borrowed from other FAA exams (weather, weight and balance, regulations, ect.). The hard part was going to the FSDO (ATL) to get the certificate in person. Not many on staff knew the procedures. Take EVERY document you have!

Heading to test today, the FAA study guide is pretty daunting...drilling down to applicable info I found the following most helpful:

study guide video (from 02/2017, so recent)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_ucCKFJUCU

study guide of the above

3DR practice test (well over 100 questions)
https://3dr.com/faa/drone-practice-tests/

I bought this course as well ($10) but some of the info was too in depth.
