When I was a kid, there were a LOT of what I considered "old" as in 1930's 40's 50's where we hangered....
There was even a Ford Tri-Motor out there, nothing like that around here, just wondering if you still see vintage birds anywhere besides bone yards or museums?

In Alaska, yes.  DC-3, C46, DC-6 are common to see.

From Anchorage to Galbraith (pump station 3) we used to fly up in a Convair 340.

I haven't noticed it in a while, so it may have been sold/moved, but there was a restored Waco in one of the T hangars.

There was an Ercoupe, but it got sold and ferried out, after sitting for a few years.

One or two old Champs in the T hangars.

Not quite as old, but a restored Beaver.

Took a flight in a Tri-Motor a month or two ago. EAA flies it around the country and gives rides. It was amazing and at 70 bucks for a 15-20 minute flight, not a bad deal.

Gentleman I used to work for had a J-3 Cub built in October of 1943....what a marvelous little aircraft it was. I don't remember if I was sicker or madder when I found out what he sold it for.

I fly my '46 Tcraft quite a bit. There's a few Luscombes, a Rearwin and a Interstate plus a J3 cub. Other than my Tcraft and the Interstate, the rest are pretty much just hangar queens.

The museum at Willow Run has a flying B-17, B-25, and C-47.  Plus there a a ton of freighters, and they're not new either.  Our airplane is a '61.

When I get an invite to fly in the cub, I always take it.  Just a fun airplane to fly.

There are a couple of Ercoupes, and a DeHavilland Tiger Moth and possibly one or two others that I haven't seen yet.

I don't know if you consider these old.  In my area there are a couple Cessna 195, several cubs, couple Stearmans, and several T6 Texans.

There's a Convair 580 that flies to the Bahamas everyday and a turbo Beech 18 that I see occasionally.

Does my 1946 Stinson 108 qualify? Previously I owned a 1944 vintage Stearman PT-17 that was restored by Pete Jones at Airepair. Or my brother-in-laws two 1930-40's vintage Stearman's and his Tri-Champ?

My first real flying job was flying those turbine Beech 18s.  In fact, I used to fly one of the ones in FLL for one of her previous owners.

Lotsa J3's, 3 Stearman's, several Ercoupes, 1 or 2 PT-19's and a T6.

Another dude has a gorgeous Cessna 195 and there are 3 Champs and a Luscombe as well.

About covers it, I think.

You mean something like this?

1941 J-3F, Franklin 65 hp Piper Cub.  My dad had it since the early 60's and I've been taking care of it for about the last 10 years now.  I think I am currently the oldest plane on the airport.

One of my neighbors has a Stinson 108, and another has a Stearman. Another was just sold.  I have a 46 Champ.
