...he passed the Private Pilot- Heliflopter checkride! It's an add-on to his Private ASEL.

He has been pursuing this since he was 16- a 21 year journey.

I gotta admit, I'm a touch jealous and a lot proud!

Good for him.  Its on my list of things to do but unfortunately we've lost all of our helicopter schools here in Tucson.

Atta boy! Once you fly a helicopter, nothing else will compare (just over 200hrs here)! You should try it... Ha!

I have- My logbook shows 9 hours in heliflopters. Life keeps getting in the way to finish.

Nice! Life has a way of doing that, I suppose. Hopefully you get wrap up the add-on someday, 9 hours was probably just starting to get into the fun stuff!

I went over to the Dark Side over 3 years ago. I am now so uncurrent on fixed wing it's pathetic. THAT is the power of the Dark Side.

Good on ya', son!

Ah shit... now he wants to get a commercial rotary ticket and do ag-spraying part time.

Damn heliflopters had screwed his head up...

Congrats to your son! Once you go rotary you don't go back. Logged 2.0 in a UH-60 today. I thought I'd be re-upping at my old flight club and renting a 172 for fun once and a while now that I'm back from flight school. Somehow it hasn't happened yet.

I first learned to fly on Helicopters (Schweizer 300CBi, awesome time), while I've moved on...it was an awesome time.

Yep, rotorcraft are a tenacious disease once started! Unless he knows someone though, going commercial rotorcraft is challenging with low hours. Insurance will be a challenge for him, as most insurance providers don't care much about fixed time when quiting rates for rotorcraft coverage. Have him do his homework before committing!

That having been said, I'm halfway or so through CFI-H, and I regret nothing so far. It's been a crazy road, and I know there will be bumps ahead, but I wouldn't trade it for anything!
