These quadrotor "drones" are so common now.  The control technology seems to be pretty mature, providing everything from great stability to fly home features.

How long before somebody puts this to use in a people-carrying air vehicle?  Battery range is still generally unimpressive, so I'm thinking gasoline engines providing power and digital control over the rotors.

Note: I am not an aeronautical engineer, nor do I play one in the movies.
