Thanks for posting. As a I grew up in the time of the X15 project I enthusiastically followed every aspect of its development and testing.

If you're REALLY into reading about the history of the X-15 program, including illustrations of the other various contractor proposals detailed, check out X-15: Extending the Frontiers of Flight, (2012) (705 Pages) authored for NASA by Dennis R. Jenkins (check out some of his other books - he's an outstanding aviation author/historian).

As a NASA-commissioned history, it is available for FREE(!) in pdf, EPUB, and MOBI formats for those with tablets, Kindle, Kindle app, etc.
