You should drop into the field on the other side of the pass. Driggs Idaho! Awesome FBO...great food...awesome aviation museum. Owner of the FBO has a T2B, Mig15, Mig17 and a bunch of other toys on display.

I just like flying low in my helicopter. I think the highest I have been in the 58 was 2500ft AGL, once. Most of the time I am 500ft or below

I'd actually rather have altitude in an engine failure with a helicopter, but my operations, short of long cross countries, don't require me climbing very high. Unless its a 10' hover auto, which is super easy. :) Frank, read up on height-velocity diagrams for helicopters and the principles of an autorotation to understand why altitude is a good thing in most situations. |

But low level autos start in the flare. Should be easier.

What would keep the rotor spinning with a total power loss though? The original inertia? |

The rotor system basically reverses airflow and instead of inducing air through the rotor it uses the air from below to maintain rotor rpm. The helicopter generally maintains 100%Nr when the collective is fully reduced. However, some aircraft require more work to auto, like mine.
