I was in HMH 361 (78-81) and was a crew chief on A and D models. I thought they were long gone already. |

First helicopter I ever rode in. I love those things.

The Krauts are still flying them, VERY low, in Afghanistan. I loved how you could FEEL them coming before you could hear them or see them.

I was sad to see the MH-53's go.
We were visiting the Eglin AFB / Air Force Armament Museum right after they flew one over from Hurlburt Field on its last flight. Worked with Pave Low's many times, and they were awesome birds. |

I loved flying in those, even with the constant oil drip. :)

I got a ride in one used in Operation Eagle Claw.
It was the size of a small house. |

I spent a large chunk of my life crawling all over them.
Filthy aircraft... FWIW, Lockheed has four open requisitions for CH-53 avionics technicians in Hawaii. If you are looking for a job.... |

Nothing like SPIE rigging from the Stallion. Spent a bunch of time riding hops, repelling, fast roping out of them. Hydraulic nightmares. Favorite helo. I was on a CH-46 that caught on fire, which sucked.

Odds are pretty good I may have flown on this last one in HI. I did a bunch of helo ops between my HRST master training, some parachute jumps and the regular recon training ops when I was out there.
