Took my son for his first flight in GA aircraft.  Flew MQY to CHA.  Went to the Aquarium and 5 Guys.

172S from the school I’m using for my airplane add-on ratings.  It’s growing on me.   Obviously not as much fun as the Apache, Kiowa Warrior, or Chinook.  But it’s a means to an end.

I guess I don't have enough posts to post a pic, but here's a short video of me flying my powered parachute.  Yes, I fly at the speed of bugs, but it is tons of fun.  I'm also a CFI and have given many check rides to to 707, 777, and 747 pilots and they have all said that they have the most fun flying in their powered parachutes.

I'm in the process of pursuing a private pilot certificate in this 172.  Should've done it 20 years ago.

@scul

Congrats!  I assume you’re on RTAG, but if not, check them out.  You could inspire other dudes to get there.

Thanks!  Just poked my head back in here to say I flew my first solo today.

I spent the last couple lessons trying to figure out the balance of throttle and elevator to transition my approaches into a flare without ballooning 20ft off the tarmac when I began to enter ground effect.  It all clicked today, I did about eight good touchdowns in a row and my CFI had me taxi to the tower and drop him off, and I did three more good landings to a full stop.  Achievement unlocked.

Didn't cut my shirt tail off or commemorate the occasion with a photo or anything... so here's a poorly cropped photo of the C172R I didn't crash today:

Thanks!  I'd like to pass my Private check ride by the end of the year, should be plenty attainable if the weather keeps cooperating.

Caught this nice sunset on Monday returning from my second solo cross country.  I'm currently sitting at 41 hours.  Going up with my CFI tomorrow evening to knock out all the nighttime requirements, and then I just need to do another two hours of simulated IMC and it's time to really start prepping for the Private check ride.

I just flew out of there this afternoon, also.  That's a beautiful area!

This was a short evening cross-country from late December with my girlfriend, from St. Cloud, MN (KSTC) to Glenwood (KGHW) to Alexandria (KAXN) and back.  We got to watch a beautiful sunset over some low cloud cover to our west, and then enjoyed the view as the moon illuminated the snow-covered fields.

I passed my Private checkride toward the end of November after a bunch of weather and maintenance delays, been trying to fly every 7-10 days at minimum so that my skills don't atrophy.  Not a lot of nice flying weather this time of year, but this flight school 172R is almost always available after 4pm so it's easy to book it on short notice.  On the waiting list for a hangar at KSTC; hopefully I can stop throwing away money on a rental within the next couple years.

Just got my complex and high performance endorsements and logged my tenth hour of dual training received in a 182RG, so insurance will let me solo it. The CFI and I were tired of beating up the pattern at home base, so we took a short cross-country flight out to the Fagen Fighters WWII aircraft museum at KGDB (Granite Falls, MN.) He had another guy scheduled after me, so we only spent 35 minutes or so at Fagen; I'll definitely have to fly back over there when time constraints aren't an issue.

Also been doing some self-study for Instrument and prepping for the written with the Sheppard app.  I need to impose deadlines to motivate myself, so hopefully passing the written and starting the 24-month countdown will get my ass in gear.

Essentially, yes. They’re hush kits to ensure stage 3 noise compliance.

The motors are the same ones used on British F-4s…
