You guys are flying some pretty fancy rides. I like to keep it simple.

Started out like this.

Swapped Mac engine for a Rotax then sold this gyro in order to get another one.

Currently building one of these.

One of our Stan Eval Pilots is an avid hiker.  He backpacked in the day before our mission up there.  He just hung around and waited for us.

Normally he is flying a Hurk.

I am in firefighting Hurk #2, tail 94-7317.

Almost....couldnt quite reach the rudder pedals.

The first entry in my logbook is in the same type of plane 22 years later to the month.

A quick blast from the past for Mark.  My dad in his Navion, sometime in the 70's.  It has been pointed out to me, that there is a case of Schlitz in the back seat..I'll have to ask about that one of these days.

Seems I'm one of the less qualified pilots here. I've been flying this one since it was delivered new two years back. Before that I flew our PC12/45 since delivery in 2004. Before that it was cargo in Cessna 402.

I'm sorta bored of Pilatus and thinking about looking for something else if the job market ever rebounds. May go back to cargo to find some more multi time.

Still beats working for a living!!!

First time RC flying on floats today under the watchful instruction of Colt_Sporter.   This RC flying is harder then flying a bus.

Actually the setup that Surf has is quite nice (if I may say so). It's a simple plane that EXTREMELY over powered. So 90% of the flight is done at 1/2 throttle or less. Flights can be stretched to 20+ min if you go easy. I have a similar setup for goofing off.

Yes, though you would still need a high altitude endorsement.

Flew solo for the first time 10/18/2010. Here are a few pics of the event. My family and a couple friends came out.

Flying a 2001 Cessna 172R.

ETA: This was a go around actually with my instructor still but thought it was a cool picture. No reason for the go around, just practicing.

Reaction after the flight.

Thanks guys! It definitely was AWESOME! Something I will never forget! I will probably frame the shirt tail with a couple of pictures and hang that in my office when I actually have one.

Does my complex/high performance qualify me for that ?

Add a high altitude endorsement and you've got it. As for the nuts and bolts of driving it, if you can fly a bonanza and know your way around an FMS, you can have your way with it. It is literally embarrassingly easy to fly. Every year at recurrent sim training I try to avoid telling the other students what I'm there training in.

That and the insurance requires an initial school + simulator.

Was good to see y'all at the alliance airshow this weekend. My grandfather was a B-29 pilot in the 869th Bombardment Squadron.

He has lots of good war stories.

Is it true the Navion was based on the P-51? Looking at the wings and tail, there sure seem to be some similarities.
