It's been a while, sold my house and am in the process of finding a new one by the kids.
I primarily smoke English blends, my everyday's are McClellen's Dark English Full and Stokkebye's English Luxury. I've been well pleased with SPC's Mississippi River and Seattle Evening. As a break from this heavy English diet, I've grown fond of McClellen's Virginia Woods. I tried G. L. Pease's Chelsea Morning which was OK. I picked up two tins of McClellen's 2015 Christman Cheer to replace the 2014 which I'll open on Christmas Eve this year. Picked up two new Savinelli pipes, a Bulldog and a Canadian, which I smoke with the filters. I'm retired now and smoke 6 to 8 bowls a day and the filter helps keep them pleasurable. Yes, I realize I'm missing so much of the nuance in my tobacco but I make my coffee in a Keurig, I can't tell a $30.00 bottle of wine from a $300.00 one and I've never solved the mystery that is Pinot Noir. I don't have a very sophisticated palate but as Walter says: "I don't give a damn". One luxury I did allow myself is a Corona Old Boy lighted..Kind of expensive but after all those Bics........ |

Do you know how compares to Escudo? I really like the VaPers I've tried so far (Escudo, Dunhill Deluxe navy rolls, Luxury Navy flake, bullseye) |

I've been smoking English/Balkan blends for so long now, perhaps I'm not the best source to critique Va/Pers but I'm really enjoying the lighter, more crisply defined flavor profile. I seem to have a lot of McClelland's stuff in my cellar, not due to any brand loyalty, guess their blending paradigm just works for me. Its been so long since I smoked Escudo that I can't really do a comparison. If you try it let me know what you think, your palate is almost certainly more sophisticated than mine, I'm an old fart, a very old fart.

Just finished a bowl of St James Woods in a non-filtered Vauen. Very nice, glad I got tin! Let it dry for about 30 minutes as it was pretty wet. Deeper, more complex than Escudo, yet similar. Will keep in the rotation.

Starting breaking in my brand new Royal Dutch bent bulldog pipe with some Irish Flake tonight. So far I'm happy with the pipe and was pleasantly surprised to discover it had a moisture collection chamber in it like Petersons do. So far, $70 well spent.
