I have a friend that is looking at a house and he is wondering what this thing on the side of the house is.  The rooms on the other side of the wall are the master and another bed room. Slab construction.

Why would they use two little triangle bricks for that top corner?

No basements in this area since the water table is really high.  The laundry room is really far from this wall.

Got any kind of gas heater or stove near it? Maybe at one time they wanted a chimney and never finished it?

I think the house was built in the late 80's. I doubt it was a chimney...but maybe a gas heater, but I doubt it.

Radon vent? 80's might be too old to be aware of that.

Maybe it's some sort of kitchen exhaust fan.

Built by previous owner to sneak new firearms purchases into the house in an attempt to avoid confrontations with the misses.

Obviously didn't work, hence why the property is for sale.

Never thought of radon...this house is in southeast tx, so don't think radon is usually an issue there

Here is a quick mspaint of the layout on the first floor.
The item in question is on the left side.

Unless it's solid, which I doubt, bricks have holes through them.

That would be awesome..

I could possibly see some type of ventilation, but for what...I don't know.  There are no crawl spaces that I know of and why would you vent an attic at ground level.

Yes, it does.  It would be a pretty long run, but it does have one.  It is a wimpy little thing that rises up on the old thermador electric stove and I'm not sure if it is truly a vent or if it is just a filtering system.
