Neat tool/fixture...multi point adjustable datum system.

I have seen these before, but this one looks like the best of the designs so far with its adjustability.

The only thing I don't like are the thumb screws that stick out on the side.   Depending on your planer they could hang up on something.  I would use something that is flush or recessed a little.  It wouldn't be that much of an inconvenience

I went with the hot glue gun planer sled idea.  planer sled

It took time to set up, but it did work surprisingly well. 

Also set up my router to act as a jointer, with these simple plastic shims from rockler.

Still not as good as a jointer.

My 8 inch jointer works very well.
