I have been thinking about an ammo can boombox for a while, but I have no electrical wiring skills whatsoever, and I didn't want to spend $300+ on a real production model. So after some brainstorming and internet research I came up with this...

This

plus this

equals this

Yea, I wanna see this.

Cool.

You gonna do a how to? Any chance it could be made to accept RCA audio? (my daughter has 40 year old turn tables)

Other members here have made very complicated versions with wiring diagrams etc.

The flash cube already had bluetooth and an aux input. On the back I drilled a hole that will accept the input.

I should have taken pictures during, but I was too busy cursing and trying not to cut my fingers off

I started with the ION Flash Cube ($49.99 on Groupon after coupon code) and completely gutted it.

This leaves you with a tweeter, a speaker/sub, a touch screen control panel, and a main circuit board.

All (99%) of the pieces are wired with quick connects, I only had to cut and solder 2 wires to get the tweeter out.

Then I laid out my pieces on a template of the ammo can face to see how I wanted them arranged.

Covered ammo can with tape (should have used painters tape, I was too lazy to look for some and the scotch tape took some of the lettering off with it).

Measured, traced, cut holes for speakers and touch screen panel on front.

Measured, traced, cut holes for bluetooth connect button and aux in on back.

I also added a bass tube (I think that's what it's called) on the back.

Rewired everything back together inside ammo can and test fit.

Once I verified it worked and that the cuts were correct, I mounted all parts with hot glue, silicone, or screws depending on the part.

I found some egg crate type foam that I saved from some shipping container and filled some empty space with that to minimize any rattle.

Was fun on the shoulder, shot them all in one day. And it helped break in my Rem870.

Any details on how you made it? I'm interested in making one as a gift for a friend.

Get a couple boxes of federal red white and blue shot shell. The finished product required 21 blue, 37 red, and 33 white shells. I hot glued them to a plastic board backer and ordered a custom frame online to fit around it. The dimensions on this one are 18 1/2" x 10 1/4"

I'm very interested in this. It would work great in the HMMWV I just bought.

OK, so back to your ammo can speaker. How do you power it?

It's using the AC plug that was already on the Ion Flash Cube. It has a quick connect to the main circuit board so I was able to unclip it, drill a hole on the back of the can, and feed the cord through the hole and connect it back to the circuit board.
