So I recently got a house that has nice wood floors underneath the carpet. I pulled the living room up and they're in great shape except for small tacky spots from the pad. The living room wasn't that bad and I was able to get them off with a little elbow grease (Some spots were on there really good and took a little finish off). I pulled up a bedroom and there are a lot more than there were on a living room. Just standing in the room you'd probably be stepping on 2-4 spots. I was wondering if there were any floor experts in here that had any ideas that would help get these spots up without ruining the floors finish. I tried using something like goo off in a test area. It kinda melted it and when I went to wipe it off it just turned it into a big black blob.

Also, might as well add that there are a few stress fractures that are on the house. The inspector said this is natural for a house as old as this and that they could be sealed up. Do people use normal caulking or a concrete mix to go around and do this?

I'm not a flooring expert.

I'd start with detergent and water.  Let it stand wet and then scrub with a soft bristle brush.

If that did not work, next would be mineral spirits.

After that, I'd try denatured alcohol.

I'll give that  a try in the morning and see if it works.

...when i noticed a crack in the mortar/grout line i used a masonry caulking compound to fill it, ...i believe it was a polyurethane-based product, and was gray in color and has some "grit" embedded in it to mimic the mortar/grout...  pretty easy to apply, it's quite tacky and thick....  the color may not match exactly, but it may be paintable if you so choose... i also used up the whole tube by caulking the trim/brick interface around my garage door...  been two years and has held up great, ...seems like a durable product...
