We basically had a new back end added on to our house, and after the rough electrical inspection, the electrian hasn't been seen by anyone. After the Sheetrockers covered up half the outlet boxes, and I had to dig them out, I decided to hook the stuff myself. The simple light switches, and the outlets were easy. The light switches by the doors in the bedroom and the living room are out of my league.
First there wasn't any power on any wires in the boxes. Finally found one live wire in the bedroom. In the living room I used an extension cord to get into the outlet, a piece of left over wire to jam in there and hook to a switch, and some speaker cord with alligator clips on the ends to stick to wires to try to figure out which ones went where. Found the outdoor outlet wire, and the outdoor flood light, but that's all. No lights or fan in the living room would come on. Second, Went to the bedroom and going off that live wire, I found the other flood light, the closet and outlets, but no ceiling fan outside. I did notice that when I connected the live wire to the outdoor light wire, the one black wire, or the red wire (not taped in the pics) in the bedroom, I had power in the living room recepticals, but it was every wire live except the outdoor outlet. Still didn't get any lights to come on. I didn't figure out any of the wires in the left light switch box in the living room. There is a single recessed light in the room between these, but it has its own light switch, I think. It doesn't get power till I hook up those red or black wires in the bedroom either.
As far as what these boxes feed, It's 1 outdoor flood light on that corner of the house, 1 ceiling fan 4 recessed lights (that I assume are wired as one) and an outdoor outlet with the two light switch boxes in the living room. In the bedroom, it's the one light switch box with a porch light (ceiling fan), the outdoor flood light on that side, (that seems to also feed back into the living room since attaching the live wire to it sends power in there), and the wire that feeds the power to the closet and its outlets. I've marked the wires I know does what where. The rest, I don't know, including the red ones. Anyone with advice on how to get these going, or what the electrian did to keep the lights off please share. Here's pics of the wires, bedroom first.
The live wire is right under the closet wire. It's hard to see, but the red taped wire on the right is actually two wires, one the closet stuff, and the other the live.
The living room boxes together, with my homemade jumper.
Living room again, without my homemade jumper.
The one long wire has the center insulation removed, and the end insulation removed. I guessed that was so he could just wrap it in one switch, and swing it over to the other in the box easy. That's also the box on the right in the other picture and the only one I figured out some wires to. It's easier to see his double stripping in the other box.
The left side. There you can see the stripped middle and end on the one black wire. It's also got the most red wires in it.
Thanks in advance, just for reading this. Hopefully someone has a clue about how to get this wires up right. I've got both 2 and 3 way switches there, so I can try anything, and with using alligator clips on live wires, you can tell I don't mind getting shocked so I'll try best guesses without hesitation.
