THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT From last Fall. The bookcases:
Some store-bought moldings, some made with my router: Once the bookcases were done, I moved on to doing other things and left the whole mantle thing on the back burner. I finally decided that I had to just finish the damn room. My Wife and I went around and around about designs, etc. for a while. After a month of that I said, "Fuck it!!!! I'm building it. I've got a damn good idea what I want it to look like. No more minute detail BS, hunny-bunny....." It's getting there:
DONE! Started in November, but it's fucking done. I like it, and think I didn't do too badly for my first time building "furniture."

I'm impressed.
What did you do to fill/finish the gap between the fireplace and the bookcases? |
