THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT ways to make room by storing stuff above, and inside, and wherever I can think of an idea to make room. I love to fish, and have a lot of fishing rods, and reels. I have been keeping them against the wall for years, and basically taking up about 6 foot of wall space, and floor space for that matter. Today I told myself that was going to be fixed. So here is what I came up with. Simple, and by no means engineered by a rocket scientist, but I think it turned out great. Now show me your garage storage solutions so I can steal your ideas.

Light things can hang on 1/4 " pegboard hooks. Heavy stuff needs slatwall hooks or hangers. |

Planning storage ABOVE my garage door, when garage door is in the up position there is a good 2' of wasted space, plan on using the metal braces that hang that hold the door track up from the ceiling to make shelving. Need to buy more braces but I should be able to hand quite a few shelves. Only downside I can think of is only the shelves near the opener will be accessible when the door is up.

I have overhead storage, as well as shelves that mount to the wall on one side. I need to get some more installed. I may go try to take a pic, but it is dark, and my garage is currently a mess.

That sounds like an accident waiting to happen... |

Like the rod storage, OP. Might I suggest something like a piece of 550 cord or similar stretched across near the tip ends with a carabiner so you can take it down to remove rods? I'd hate to see one of your good poles shift a half inch and land tip-down on the floor.

I like your simple rod rack I did something very similar but both ends are supported.
if you have double garage doors I stole this idea out of a magazine. I put in small 10" shelves between my doors stores a amazing amount of spray cans and quarts of oil and also all those pint buckets of spot putty/woodfiller/adhesives/you name it check out family handyman magazine all sorts of space saving tips.... also tag for ideas. |

For my fishing poles I just used one of these on the handle end & one of these on the tip end of each pole. No worries of the poles falling off the ceiling & they are out of the way.
