The bermuda and weeds have me beat! Last year I gutted the flower beds, put down new soil, and laid down a ton of mulch and new plants and water grass. After making a decent effort to keep the weeds and bermuda out, I gave up (my words). This fall I plan to take a different approach and want to tear out some of the plants such as the water grass, and put in more rose bushes. Before putting in the plants though I want to put down a barrier and border that will do a better job at keeping the bermuda out.

Any suggestions? Also, Ive heard that bark is better than mulch, in that it wont "glue" together like mulch will. Then again, Ive also read that any kind of wood mulch can be giving the termites a feast with your house as a main course.

Did you use weed paper (I don't know what it's really called) and pre-emergent? That might be your problem.

use the 15 year weed fabric and at leat 4" mulch on top. Pay the extra $$$ for the best FABRIC, not the plastic junk. Bermuda is a pretty formidable adversary, so i dont think you will be home free just yet. try some round-up as well. helped my landscaping beds quite a bit. Ive read that bermuda will grow as deep as 8 feet to get around obstacles like retaining walls and such. good luck!
