THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
This is a German cabinet. Mounts have 18" centers with offset mounting tabs that hold 4 bolts.

Basically, I cant screw the bolts into the studs. Would drywall anchors help (just the cabinet and glasses) so should I not risk it an get some 1x4s to screw into the wall then screw the cabinet into the 1x4s?

I would go with 1x4s mounted to the studs with atleast 2-3" wood screws securing them. Then just mount the cabinets to the 1x4s. I would avoid dry wall anchors for cabinets that you will put anything into. Sure some are rated for a lot of weight, but they tear up dry wall and can create a mess. With dry wall anchors, they leave an big ugle hole when they are taken down. Screws and a 1x4 will just leave small pin holes from the screws themselves. I normally use drywall anchors for pictures or big framed pieces.

A well built cabinet should have whats called a screw rail inside at the top and bottom in the back. If your cabinet doesent, or just has a 1/4" back in it, you can add a 3/4''x2' x interior width, and attach by screwing throught the top, bottom of the cabinet into this new rail and a finish nail or two throught the sides wouldnt hurt. This should substantially beef up your cabinet and allow you to screw through this rail anywhere a stud may be.

how much weight will be in the cabinet? I would put a 1x4 at the top and bottom of the cabinet. your idea looks good to go though.

Yea I thought about that. It would only keep the cabinet level as there are not provisions on the cabinet to use that piece to hold it to the wall.

Can you screw a bank of cabinets together and the mount them on the wall? This way they would span past the 18" stud spacing.

most euro cabinets use a rail like this one form ikea http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/84675400/

You could also use some thin unistrut with spring nuts and 1/4' bolts

Also your idea will work but use longer screws 3" minimum since you are going through a 1x and drywall

spax screws are overkill and you can get away with real deck screws ( green or tan (not silver)

use a 1x on the bottom flush with the bottom cabinet to shim the cabinet out

Do you have a way to cover the gap created by the 1x on the ends of the cabinet?

cut a 4" by whatever long piece of drywall out exposing the studs. nail a 1x4 in it's place so it's flush with the wall. hang cabinet from 1x4. drink beer.
