THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
I have two pairs of speakers that the woofers have dry rotted, and was wondering if anyone would know where the best place to buy replacements would be.

the first pair I have are Paradigm bookshelf speakers that I got when I was in college around the summer of 1995. I am not sure which model they are as the sticker on the back of the speakers are long gone. They are 6 inch woofers. on the back of the woofers it has some markings: "titan", "WFC" , and I think the numbers are 9442

The second set I have are Advent "prodigy" 8" towers about 32 inches in height, I got these back in high school probably around 88 or 89. the woofers on these measure around 7.5 inches.on the magnet the markings are "3210" and "2202689"

thanks in advance for any and all help

Foam kits are on ebay and always just a Google search away.

Don't replace the woofers, refoam them. It's cheap and easy to do. Just follow the directions in the kit.

I agree with cmjohnson. Refoaming is easy. I've done 10 drivers ranging from 6.5" to 15". The hardest part is being patient and letting the glue dry properly. And no need to get a kit with glue, you can get the same glue at Wal-Mart in the crafts section. Aileen's Tacky Glue. It's currently holding together a 12" sub powered by a 1,000w amp in my wife's car. Scroll down to my pictures - Club Lexus

Replacing the foam surrounds is very easy, check out www.partsexpress.com

Direct link for foam surround kits http://www.parts-express.com/wizards/searchResults.cfm?srchExt=CAT&srchCat=373

If you don't want to screw around with doing them yourself, the forum there can point you to reliable places to have it done. Or you can upgrade the drivers themselves, but some people will tell you that it gets all complicated, having to know stuff like VAS, and QTS and QES of the original drivers. In my experience, most non audiophiles would never know or even say the new ones sound better.

Most of the Ebay foam suppliers are 1/2 the price of PE.

Not only do you have to worry about the Theile/Small parameters so it works in the cabinet, you also have to worry about matching the frequency response curve, sensitivity and impedance curve so that it will work with the crossover.

I've been burned by Fleabay before but YMMV, looked really quick at some the sellers, some of the kits didn't include dust caps (wtf?). The Paradigm speakers can be service by the factory, if you want to go that route. Just go to the Paradigm website all the info is there.

A quick look on Parts Express,

You can have your Paradigms done for $36.75 + shipping, and the Advents will run you $35.75 + shipping, both quotes are for a pair. Like an old 1sgt used to say "Son, it's like a sore pecker, ya just can't beat it."
