Not sure how I feel about this. I loved the original. I actually considered buying one of the guns made for the movie, even spoke a couple times to Randy Moore about it, I just didn't have $8k. Looks like some interesting cast have signed on though; Samuel L Jackson and Gary Oldman along with that guy from House.

If I'm curt with you it's because time is a factor. I think fast, I talk fast and I need you guys to act fast if you wanna get out of this. So, pretty please... with sugar on top. Clean the f'ing car!

The trailer for the original movie is funny... It uses the music from Terminator. Movie trailers have come a long way since then.

I'm definitely skeptical about this... it'll be hard to beat the original. Partly because it was awesome, but also Verhoeven's humorous approach to excessive violence will be hard to match. Remember the scene where ED209 glitches out during a demo and not only wastes an OCP employees, but it's shown in ridiculous detail to where he looks like a riddles piece of meat when he hits the table.

I'm not sold on Joel Kinnaman either. I don't watch The Killing so I don't know what range he has as an actor.

Having S.L. Jackson will either be really cool or over the top stupid...

The original sure got the prediction of Detroit right. Crime, corruption, rundown shithole, and no cops.

They can save money this time, they won't have to make it look rundown.

Generally, I would agree with this sentiment. In this case, I approve.

Damn... that's harsh.

Starship Troopers was a good, fun, check-your-brain-at-the-door sci-fi movie. What it wasn't was Heinlein's version. They should have just called it Space Troopers or Mobile Infantry... just not Starship Troopers.

What you're failing to take into account is that Verhoven hated the book, the ideas in it, and disliked Heinlein, because of it. He felt it to be jingoistic fascist militarism, and willfully missed the idea that "only soldiers know the cost of war", and the entire concept of "The Federation" was not some military junta, but a constitutional republic who's founding principle was "to lead, you had to have some skin in the game".

It wasn't just a matter of him taking Starship Troopers and deciding to use it as a launch point to make some bubblegum action flick, he actively despised the source material and purposely made the movie to mock it. The Hugo Boss Nazi uniforms, showing the government as all military personnel when in the book active duty military can not hold political office, and there's other non-military types of Federal Service one could choose, and even making a blond Casper Van Dien "Johnny Rico" when in the book he was a Filipino (mother took the tube to Buenos Aries to shop, they didn't live there), which was an incredibly early example of global diversity for such a novel.

I'd forgive a quick and dirty popcorn flick use of Starship Troopers, but Verhoven intentionally set out to destroy it.

I wasn't failing to take it into account... I just take movies at face value so they aren't ruined by people's personal views or intentions. Just like I avoid reading into a director's/producer's "anti-gun agenda" or "anti'Conservative" or "anti-everything" motives behind it. I watch the movie... I take it all in, and then I leave. I don't let the behind-the-scenes crap ruin it for me.

I read the book. It was way different. Then I moved on.

I agree, I can normally do that, and just enjoy a movie for what it is. 99% of them are all directed by and acted in by libtarded asshats as it is.

I don't know why, but Starship Troopers somehow pissed me off... badly. It just all crystallized that Verhoven is really a skinnier Eurotrash Michael Moore who makes sci-fi/shock/action flicks instead of self righteous documentaries about America.

I also think it's more likely someone who reads the book first, and years before they saw the movie is more likely to feel the way I do. Just the psychology of the thing I guess.

It will be interesting to see what the design is like. I expect complete overkill.
Will there be an ED 209?
Will the police vehicle they use become a hot seller? I always kind of felt like Robocop was a platform for the Ford Taurus.... maybe not but that's how I always recognized it as a kid.

Although my alliance will always lean towards the originals I don't have a problem with them remaking a movie that circles around technology. Now they can really pump the special effects into it.

I probably won't like it but it's really a movie made for a new generation. My guess the new one will be pg 13.

PG13 would be a deal breaker for me. Robocop is a movie that MUST be R.

That would be pretty gay if they tuned it down to PG-13. Have they done that with other remakes?

Even though it was just big stupid fun, one of the main reasons I enjoyed The Expendables was that they had enough balls to give it an R and deservedly so.
