Zero Dark Thirty

finally watched it, (owned it since it came out on Blu-ray )

the first hour was a little dry, but when they start getting hot on the trail of finding UBL it starts to pick up.

the raid on the compound was great

I really liked it.

Z Channel: A Magnificent Obsession - 2004

"The documentary is about Z Channel which was one of the first pay cable TV stations in the US. Z Channel became famous for showing an eclectic variety of films, including foreign language, silent, documentary, director's cut, forgotten, overlooked, under-appreciated, erotic as well as mainstream films, without commercials and uncut and letterbox-ed when possible."

Eye in the Sky

a joint US/ UK terrorist unit follow some top ranking targets in a small town in Nairobi.

They want to call in a drone Hellfire strike on the target.

the whole strike gets turned into a SNAFU when legal and political get pulled into the operation, and then it just goes downhill from there.

it was a very good thriller.

stars Helen Mirren, Aaron Paul, and Alan Rickman

Finding Noah

a documentary that follows a team up Mt Ararat to find evidence of Noah's Ark

has a brief history of past searches, the political history surrounding the area, and difficulties getting the permits to search.

The climb documentary was interesting, they summited (elev. 16,854 ft.)

the search consists of drilling and digging into the glacier/snowcap that covers the upper elevations of the mountain/volcano

the movie was ok

Steve McQueen:The Man and Le Mans.
The story about the filming of the movie Le Mans.
But it isn't.  It's an incomplete unfocused biography.
The racing parts are good.  The other parts are an unqualified "meh"
A barely recommended "C"

Susan Lenox:Her Rise and Fall - 1931
A Pre-Code melodrama that is distinctive because it is the only onscreen pairing of Clark Gable and Greta Garbo.
The material is uninspired and pedestrian.  The only good parts are when Garbo and Gable share scenes together.
The rest of the film rates two "mehs"

Sicario good movie and great acting by everyone except Emily Blunt she looked like a stoner reading from a teleprompter.

"Bumping Into Broadway is a 1919 American short comedy film featuring Harold Lloyd. A print of the film survives in the film archive of the UCLA Film and Television Archive.  This film is notable as Lloyd's first two-reeler featuring his "glasses" character."

It's a pretty good flick.  Hal Roach can pack a lot of gags into a two-reeler.
Harold Lloyd is very funny and adept at physical comedy.

Term Life

a career theif (heist planner) gets blamed when a job goes badly.

He goes on the run when being targeted by a drug cartel and a gang of crooked detectives.

He takes his 16yo daughter (who barely knows him) on the run to protect her from the cartel

so the side story is the father/daughter relationship story as they are on the run.

it was ok, stars Vince Vaughn and Hailee Steinfeld

I finally got around to going through some of my estate sales scores.
Three grab bag boxes had over 100 Buster Keaton shorts and features.
This one is a two reeler.  Fatty Arbuckle directs and stars.
Buster Keaton has second billing.

The movie itself is pretty funny
Oh Doctor - 1917

Turns out it's in the public domain.

The Battle of the Somme - 1916

London Has Fallen

the follow up to 'Olympus Has Fallen'.  Starring Gerard Butler.

The President goes to London for the funeral of the PM and a huge terrorist attack takes out many heads of state.

once the attack starts there's a lot of action and gun play

Sometimes the action goes over the top, but it was entertaining.
