Star Wars The Force Awakens:  Don't waste your time.  If you've seen part 4 and 5, you've seen this one.  1.5 out of 5

Crimson Peak:  Decent, but not really scary.  Would have been better if the "big reveal" wasn't ruined early in the movie.  3 out of 5

The Hateful Eight:  Fairly entertaining.  The dialogue was really over the top, but the overall story was alright.  3.5 out of 5

The Big Short

about the housing bubble/ sub-prime mortgage fiasco in 2006-2008.

it's a story about some investors that bet against the housing market

the movie was really well done and they made it easy to understand
(although it hammers Wall St for their part in the collapse, while ignoring the Gov't involvement of creating the environment)

Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise

this was the latest in Tom Selleck's Jesse Stone tv movie series (2015)

I liked it, there was less politics and more cop/detective story

Creed

the latest installment of Sylvester Stallone's Rocky Balboa movie series

the acting was good, the story was OK.  It set up for more sequels with the Creed character

Hunters on What used to be the Sci Fi channel. I watched two shows so far it sucks monkey balls. Please cancel it, and put the money into other shows.

If the SyFy channel cancelled every series of theirs that sucked, they would have no programming of their own to show.

No Escape

an engineer takes a job in a SE Asian country and takes along his wife and two small kids.

stars Owen Wilson, Lake Bell, and Pierce Brosnon

it was a decent action/ thriller

The 5th Wave

a TEOTWAWKI movie.  Aliens arrive on earth and soon start different waves of destruction to wipe out humanity.

the story focuses on a teenage girl trying to save herself and keep her 5? year old brother safe.

the premise of the story seems interesting, but the film falls apart in the second half.

edit to add:
saw the post for this one a few pages back, and gave it a shot

The Hateful Eight

this one was a little slow at the start, but really gets going when the action picks up.

typical Tarantino, with over the top violence.  It also was a long movie - 2hr 45min

he usually makes an appearance in his movies, was he in this one?

We all loved it, and I thought it was one of the best MCU films so far.

LOTS of set-up for films to come in the next year or three, of course.

It was a great movie.  My one big beef with it is the fact that all the arguments made for UN control and hero registration were downright pathetic.  Except for one time that Captain calls out Stark on one argument, the rest of the silly arguments are met with stony silence.
New York?  The superheroes not only saved the world from an extra-terrestrial invasion, but also saved the entire city from a GOVERNMENT sent nuclear warhead.
Washington DC?   Every person on earth would have either been killed or reduced to servitude of Hydra if not for Captain America, Falcon, and Black Widow.  And don't forget, Shield was another example of a government agency being corrupted.  The heroes in question stood up to the corruption.
Africa?  Roger's team stopped the release of an apparently very dangerous bio weapon.  The deaths that did occur were a result of a terrorist organization, including a suicide bomber.  Why is Roger's team responsible for deaths from an enemy suicide bomber?
Sakovia?  The heroes stopped a plot to wipe out mankind, at the expense of some thousands of collateral deaths that that heroes went out of their way to minimize.

In summary, the registration push is weak, and the arguments that I just readily listed off should have been made.

Otherwise, wonderful movie.

Extinction

another end of the world movie.  Virus/ raging Zombies end humanity, except for 2 men and a ten yo little girl that survive in a rural compound.  The 2 men have a background drama (no homo) and the story/action starts to heat up nine years after they escape.

it was so-so.

stars Matthew Fox and Jeffery Donovan (Burn Notice guy)

Daddy's Home

stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg.

Ferrell is a step dad that tries so hard to be involved in the step kids lives, but he's a dork and uncool
Wahlberg is the cool but absent bio Dad that tries to weasel his way back into his ex wife's and kid's lives.

there are a few laugh out loud bits
it was sweet, but only OK

Really good.  8/10.  Stallone was excellent. Just how you'd expect Rocky to be in his 60's.  The kid is good too.

Might be the best Rocky movie since the first one.

The Fantastic Four reboot.

It was awful. I didn't like the way they reinterpreted the story. I don't mind the recasting of the actors, but they didn't hew to the original story well enough. I mean, Baxter is a foundation?

I think they wanted it to be a show for young people/preteens, which is fine... but it just didn't work. Like the Harry Potter movies, it has to have elements that adults can enjoy as well.

On a positive note, Ben Grimm has never looked better, though he needed shorts.

Concussion

stars Will Smith as a doctor that researches and finds the link between head trauma caused by the collisions in Pro football.
he publishes his findings and the NFL comes down hard on him.

it was a good movie
