American Ultra
A horrible movie that was somewhat enjoyable to watch. |

Arrival
sci fi story about alien spaceships coming to earth and how humans deal with it. It was well done, the storyline was a head scratcher that takes a some thinking to figure out. stars Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner |

Wife and kids are out of town this week, so I've been cleaning/working on guns and catching up on shows and movies.
TWIN PEAKS: THE RETURN -- I loved the original back when it first aired, so I caught up on the new Showtime episodes; stranger and even slower paced than the originals, but I dig it so far. JOHN WICK 2 -- a sequel that delivers!; enjoyed it as much as the first, which was a lot. THE FOUNDER -- good movie and great cast, might surprise folks who haven't read about Ray Kroc and the McDonald brothers; surprisingly historically accurate for a non-documentary. HARDCORE HARRY -- utter crap AFAIAC; I was clearly NOT the target demo for this one. THE FREE STATE OF JONES -- better than I thought it would be, moving at times, and particularly interesting to me because we had an anomalous county here in AL with a similar story to the one on which this was based. OLD SCHOOL -- I've probably seen the entire movie in parts overy the years, but never sat down and watched it beginning to end before (I'm not a Will Farrell fan at all). |

Very little of "13 Reasons", my wife went through it, the Series, in 2 days...
I saw the *climax* and I can tell you it was accurate as fuck, and compelling. The Mrs.' opinion, NO FUCKING WAY DID THIS SERIES GLORIFY SUICIDE. After watching just that one scene, I had to agree with her. When I have time I'll see it. Not a Spoiler: the "climax" was medically technically correct, however, there was one thing I did not understand from a plot standpoint. I just asked my wife amd she gave me the wrong answer. The Accountant - awesome The Man Who Knew Infinity - fucking true and most Awesome New Jason Bourne - good, but the die is cast and let the parade begin.... Homeland, Forged in Fire, What on Earth, Blindspot, Black List... more, I forget. |

Matchstick Men
Nicholas Cage plays a con artist, (w/OCD), who learns he has a teenage daughter he has never met. Cage's character tries to get to know his daughter with all the complications it brings. I thought it was one of Nick Cage's better movies. Directed by Ridley Scott. |

Saw City of Ghosts last Saturday. City of Ghosts Excellent doco of amateur reporters trying to get the word out about the ISIS occupation of Raqqa, Syria. There was a Q and A with the director Matthew Heineman afterward.
And also Baby Driver Friday a week ago. Two thumbs up. |

The INVASION - terrible modern adaption of the Body Snatchers. Nicole Kidman & Daniel Craig must have needed some pocket money for a tax bill or something.
I give it a PERFECT 5/5 6 months old, water submerged, locked in a trunk rotting corpse rating. |

Sam Elliott little bit of an artsy low distribution film that's in the local artsy theatre this week. Elliott is a washed up Hollywood Western actor known for a single role 40 years ago. |

Death Wish 3
the production values are about B movie levels, but it's always satisfying to see Charles Bronson kick ass. |

Great movie. Can't say too much without spoiling it, but not only is there action, there is some emotional feel-good shit that can pull the left towards the right. |
