A person heading to prison requested a soft cover Catholic bible. What is the mainstream versions for Catholics? The girl did not request anything other than a soft cover Catholic bible. I am guessing something on the cheap side so as not to bring attention to her.

All I know is King James version but isn't that a Christian version or is there a difference?

Obviously, I am ignorant on this subject and need guidance from those in the know.

New American Bible (NAB), St. Joseph, New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

NRSV is my preference but any would be acceptable.

ETA: Yes, there are differences but that is loooooooooooong explanation.

I've been meaning to get one of these for years now, so I just pulled the trigger on this.  Thanks for the reminder, ha!  God Bless

Revised Standard Version Second Catholic Edition, from Ignatius Press (which was founded by a Jesuit priest who seems to delight in pissing off his fellow Jesuits, which is a very worth task).

It's basically an update of an update of the D-R.

Same great translation, but they dropped some of the "archaic" language. Makes for an easier read, and was used by Scott Hahn and Curtis Mitch in a great study Bible.

P.S.
There are many excellent Catholic PRISON MINISTRIES. I know a friend who conducts them in both state and federal prisons. Mention that to her. It is a tremendous help to prisoners.

Also, mention that she should indicate "CATHOLIC" on her religious preference on any and all intake sheets and forms. GOD BLESS!
