"We are no subsidiaries of Rome. Each conference of bishops is responsible for pastoral care in its culture, and must, as its most proper task, preach the Gospel on our own. We cannot wait for a synod to tell us how we have to shape pastoral care for marriage and family here".

As a note, the German Catholic Church requires you to tithe to the church via a government administred tax. If you do not do this they will straight up deny you the sacraments. Their church attendence is below 11%, but they don't care because the money keeps rolling in via the tax (going to church and dropping money in a plate doesn't count).  In fact, the assets of the diocese in Cologne is greater than the assets of the Vatican itself. The German Catholic Church is the second largest employer in Germany. German Bishops get paid something like $11k to $15k a month.

They've been trying to change the RCC's teachings on divorce, gay marriage, and other shit because those teachings annoy the German people. And people are cutting of the tax. Now, the German Church doesn't care about actually teaching the teachings of the Church, they just want to keep the money coming it. Their attendence doesn't matter either, because it sucks now and they're still getting paid.

So basically the Catholic Bishops in Germany are saying "F you, Rome, we'll do what we want!" Amusingly, Luther left because of his anger over the bad practice of Simony (which was worse, in fact mostly prevalent, at that time in Germany than anywhere else). The German Bishops are now basically saying the same thing in order to ensure the money from simony keeps rolling in.

That used to be a threat, nowadays it looks more and more like a relief.

1) most Germans are generally well educated
2) most German Catholics don't go to Mass
3) most German Catholics who don't go to Mass, also think they're incredibly sophisticated theologians
4) Most German Catholics who don't go to Mass, think they're incredibly smart theologians are also mind-numbingly STUPID.

But here's the think, they've got this superiority complex thing that knowing lots of languages means they understand the languages. Not so. That having lots of ideas means they are able to distinguish wisdom from folly, right from wrong, smart from stupid.

Cardinal Kasper thought he was so SMART to de-link mercy from truth. Funny how Jesus didn't see it that way. He didn't go around declaring nothing was sinful or nothing needed to be changed to be a disciple. He didn't say "go ye therefore and have a dialogue with all nations, confirming them in their cherished vices and bad habits, and encouraging them to feel good about themselves, for lo, I am with ye always until you figure out a different god to follow, such as what one may see in a mirror".

No, oddly enough, Jesus said "make disciples of all the nations, teaching them to obey all the commands I gave you" and those commands didn't include "let each country come up with it's own completely different and unique spin on the Gospel message, cause, you know, they're each so special..."

Now, we know at the end of time, all nations will be assembled before the Lamb, so there will be a diversity of cultures and nations. But it doesn't follow that there will be a diversity of Gospels. You'd think a German whose very country was cobbled together from a dozen smaller ones would grasp this. But then they're too stupid to see things that are obvious.

There's a schism coming. To defeat it was must first pop the bubble of the arrogant and proud, pop the bubble of their claimed intellectual and moral superiority as they're neither intellectually smart nor morally upright. Seriously, the drivel of Cardinal Kasper was utterly destroyed by a book from 5 other cardinals on Marriage. It was such a take down that his partisans robbed the Vatican mail to keep copies of the book from arriving to the other synodal fathers.

They can't stand up in a fair fight. (sound's like most liberal "progressives" - they can't deal with genuine free speech, thus the PC speech codes and hate crime legislation and draconinan state controls they need to impose to enforce a monopoly of propaganda..... they're neither intellectually nor morally superior.

Unfortunately to prove this requires letting them throw the first unfair punch - most Low Information people only notice things when it's obvious, egregiously, bad.
