The Pilgrims Chorus comes from the German opera Tannhäuser by Richard Wagner. The song represents the penitential journey of pilgrims. The noble aspirations of the penitents are embodied in this song, which sings the praises of God's mercy and the peace obtained by those who remit the debt of their sins.

The words and thoughts are inspiring in themselves, but the chorus--well, let's just say that it's masterful, especially to one like me still stuck in the 19th century.

In my opinion, this is one of the finest a capella  presentations with, of course some orchestration. The power, precision and subtleties of the human voice never ceases to amaze me. Of course, it's in German, and it repeats twice, with subtitles in Portuguese (!) Still, a worthy rendition.
