I recently picked up a low miles 14 F150 5.0 4x4.
Just looking for any suggestions on engine oil to use besides
What the manual calls for? Or stick with what is recommended?
Do I trust the computer to tell me when to change or not?
Any other DIY upkeep suggestions welcomed.
Thanks

Use the grade that is called for unless you live at the North Pole or in Panama.  I use synthetics, because the oil changes are less frequent. You might spend a little more for the oil, but the filter lasts longer and I only have to do it once every 7500, instead of 2  times in the same mileage with conventional oil.

My computer will allow up to 10k miles.  I think that's a little excessive, so I go a max of 7500.

I've got a 2012 5.0 with 95k and I use the regular motor craft partial synthetic, and change it every 7,500 miles.

Ford went to 5w20 in the 2000s too milk out every last MPG they could.
Last year or the year before, they changed it back to 5W30 for the 6.2L gas engine in the Super Duties.

I would suggest using the Motorcraft oil and filter.

I have  06 F150 with the 5.4 and have been using Motorcraft oil and filter changing every 5k for 155k trouble free miles

Motorcraft filter are top notch filters better than Fram junk

Thanks for the help.
Will use the synthetic blend Motorcraft and filter.
I don't think I will be able to allow oil to go past 5000 miles regardless of computer or manual recommendations.
I see first hand on a daily basis what poor oil quality does.
Thanks again guys, very much appreciated.

2013 f150 2wd 5.0 here with 50k miles. I actually sent a sample at 15k (5k on the oil) to Blackstone laboratories just to see. I change oil and filter with the motorcraft filter and 5w20 Motorcraft oil.  According to the lab they recommended going no more than another 2500 miles on what I sent them. Being that sometimes my truck just serves passenger duty and other times may haul a trailer with 2 atv s ,corn, etc. In the Texas heat, I opted to stay at 5k. Oil life monitor usually reads between 45-50% when I change it at 5k.

This is the way to do it.  Why guess when Blackstone Labs will tell you what you need to know.
