Thinking about pulling the trigger on a trade. 2004 Wrangler with 4.0 L (127K miles), for a 2013 Wrangler, 3.6 L Pentastar (23K miles).  Obviously I'm concerned mainly about the motor, having heard both good and bad about it. Anyone know anything about the 3.6 L? I am excited about more horsepower.

Had a 2015 Wrangler. Great motor, but was a little noisy until I did the initial oil change to synthetic. 2013 you say? Watch out for head issues.

I head a 2013 for about 4 years and it was great.  Head issues were mainly for 2012 models and only a few early 13s.  3.6 has good power but does need to rev to make.  Mine actually made better mileage when it was run a bit harder, than it did when taking it easy.

Agreed. WAY better on the road than a 4.0, but not really sure about off roading. I had a 92 Cherokee in high school, and a 13 JKU for a while. My JKU with 33's and 3.73 gearing did great on Colorado jeep passes and on the road. The Cherokee was in Florida, so I never off roaded with it like I have my JKU in the mountains.

Great motor. About 300hp, but needs to rev for it. It'll be a huge difference from the 4.0 which is all torque down low. Hell, just the TJ to JK/JKU alone is a huge difference in comfort, size, and drivability.

It is true 12-early 13s had head issues, but they warrantied those (might have even extended the warranty for head issues on those years, I don't remember).

Just a heads up, 12-present JKs had a few gear choices between 3.21, 3.73, and 4.10s (rubicon and possibly willys only).

Power wise, it'll be quick even with 3.21s. My sisters '16 JKU is stock and pretty fast. A friend has a '14 with a 4.5" lift, ton of armor and 37s and stock 3.21s (I've been telling him to regear...). He's pretty even if not a tad slower than my 3.7 powered KK with 31s and factory 3.73s.

The heads in the listed manufacture range are warrantied for 10 yr/150K miles no matter if you're the original owner or not. 4.10 is Rubicon only. Willys are only 3.73. Sport and Sahara have 3.21, but have the option for 3.73.

Wife has it in her Durango and I drive it often. Plenty of power and I think it's GTG

Wife has one in her 2012 Journey, I love the thing. Good power, nothing but oil changes at 76k miles, good mpg, great engine for mid sized rigs

We had a 2010 JKU with the 3.8 and it was a dog compared to our '15 GC. When the Pentastar first came out, I had a Chrysler mechanic tell me not to buy one, he was tired of working on them. But I guess they have the head issue worked out now.

Wife drives a 2012 Durango with the V6.  About 115K on it now with no problems.

Put five people and a dog in it with their bags and it complains about going up mountain grades at 80mph.  It'll do it, but you can tell it's working hard.

I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee with the 3.2L Pentastar.  So far I have no issues.

I have the 3.6l in my Chally. Complete joy to drive, especially with the 8 speed tranny. It's the brawniest V6 I've ever owned. Only time it feels sluggish at all is with 4 adults riding through the hills.

There is a recall for the 12-13 manual trans on the 3.6. The trans will fail due to a bad part. Mine was replaced under warranty.

Had a 4.0 XJ. Love the new JK. Put a switch in to turn off the traction control
