I'm having a slightly early mid-life crisis. I want a fun car so that when I walk out to the garage at the butt-crack of dawn to go to work I will think, "You know, this seems worth it" rather than "this sucks...everything sucks...kill me now." I'm seriously considering a 2016 Mustang GT 6spd premium with the performance package (better tires/brakes/suspension). Bright, fast, loud once I get a better exhaust, and should be cheap to maintain. This will be a daily driver all year round (with snow tires) for 6-8 years. For better or worse, this one is road-construction-barrel orange but it appears to be a great price (2016, 35k miles, full service history, $27k; a comparable new one stickers at about $42k and could probably be had at $36k or so)
All the car magazines say the new Camaro is the better sports car but it really doesn't have enough headroom for me to drive every day and a comparable version is about $10k more. Looked at BMW 335i M-Sport versions, but I don't want to think about the maintenance costs on one beyond about 75k miles. Golf GTI would be fun--maybe even more fun on a daily basis that a Mustang--but its just not as interesting. A $30k 911 puts me at about 2005-06, which is too old for a car that occasionally takes trips to places beyond cell phone coverage. I can't fit into a Cayman. A 2012-ish C6 Vette is about the same price, but tighter on space, old tech, and no back seat. So, should I get the Mustang? UPDATE: It's all but a done deal. Came back with a clean bill of health from the mechanic's inspection. Just waiting to sign paperwork and get it shipped to me. I drove all sorts of other cars. Camaro--more expensive and just a little bit too cramped inside. Golf GTI--fun, somewhat cheaper, didn't like the driving position and the back seat is really no more useful than the Mustang with me driving (seat all the way back), quick but not the same sort of effortless acceleration you get with a Mustang/Camaro. Focus ST--pretty fun, still a focus, cheap (new for right at $20k), but--like the GTI--just not in the same league power-wise. Ruled out German cars due to concerns about long-term ownership costs. A 997.2 Porsche is still low to mid $40k range and more expensive to maintain. Challenger/Charger is too big and too expensive. WRX is fun and fast, but painfully ugly and sorta cheap inside (and it's the vehicle of choice for a good percentage of the flat-bill hat crowd around here). Although the Mustang is not objectively the fastest thing to be had for $30k, I think it'll be the most smiles-per-dollar for something that still works for me as a daily driver. Here's the actual car: http://johnsonsewell.com/Marble-Falls-TX/For-Sale/Used/Ford/Mustang/2016-GT-Premium-Orange-Car/52332273/ UPDATE 2: It's here!! I have to assume the snow we're getting last night and today (not sticking to roads thankfully) is somehow connected with buying a car with summer tires on it. My wife doesn't exactly know yet... That's the only year/gen mustangs that I really think really look amazing. BUY IT!

its a ford, therefore not worth buying
go get a mopar and rejoice |

Op Me personally would rather go with a 2012-2014 as they are lighter and more true to the original Mustang formula but......
Pros on this specific car you've mentioned 1. it has the performance package (you DO NOT BUY a 2015+ mustang GT WITHOUT the Perf package) so kudos to you for looking at one with the perf pack 2. the color - again YOU HAVE CHOSEN WISELY as this is the a performance car color 3. Premium package, well it adds weight but you get leather so okay I'll allow it Cons 1. 35,000 miles on a 1 model year old car?????????? WTF?????????? 2. Price, I personally would go buy a new one as $6000 is not worth 35,000 miles to me and I don't give a shit about all of the non performance "luxury items" that are in the premium package. For comparison in 2015 I priced a NEW standard package GT with performance package and Recaro seats for around $33-34,000 if I remember right. So in summary it's a good start but the miles seem too high. I'd buy a new perf pack GT for mid 30s and get new car financing. FYI, I didnt buy a GT and instead bought a 2012 Corvette with 7500 miles for the same price. You may want to look at 2011-2013 Corvettes instead. |

Buy what YOU like, although as noted above, it would probably be a better idea to buy new. Especially if you want to keep it long term. I'm more of a MoPar guy but there's nothing wrong with the Mustang. My wife has a pristine 2007 GT/CS rag top that is pretty decent.

Do not buy somebody's used headache. I bought 2016 performance pkg, but no premium pkg brand-new for 30K. plus tax tags etc. in Sept15. You want a new car warranty with this car. Many AC failures, some have vibration problem that can't be solved, some are lemon law buybacks that Ford turns around and sells on used car market. With that said, I put on stainless works exhaust, steeda frame stiffeners and differential bushings, had the tires road force balanced and the car has been trouble free and an absolute blast to drive. With this exhaust and suspension you don't have to drive at Mach 2 to have fun. The stock radio SUCKS. The exhaust makes up for that. Ford has taken a new approach with the Mustang starting in 2015 with the independent rearend. I now classify the mustang as a sports where as in the past it was strictly a straight line muscle car. This car is not going to pass any Porsches on a road course but it will hold it's own. That is a big improvement from the older mustangs.

I like Ford Mustangs . Buy a winter rat for $1,500 and garage it DEC to APR.

Im a bmw guy but I say do it. New stangs and camaros are gtg in my book.
Have fun and enjoy! |

At the end of the day it's still a Mustang. A bright orange "Arrest Me Please" Mustang. No thank you.
I'd rather take a chance on a C6 Corvette. YMMV |

Car was owned by a mechanic that lived far from the dealership and has a full service history so I'm not that worried about the mileage. I think you can probably get a new base GT performance pack for under $30k if willing to shop nationwide, which is a rocking deal if you don't care for the luxury goodies. Unfortunately, I think I like the leather heat/cooled seats and the modern infotainment system too much. View Quote Buy a new one off a lot with the config like this minus the "luxury" options. Buy a hotrod not a lexus. And if you are a real badass get one with the Recaro racing seats. Do it DO IT. |

But, it never makes getting up early or in the middle of the night "worth it". That has to come from somewhere else. |

I chose a Scat Pack, six speed, Tored 2016 Challenger. Sry pleased with it. More roomier, the interior is much more nicer and the body is modern but retains that 70' retroish look. Their are a couple of Mustang owners were I work. The six speed it comes with is garbage.

Not wanting to hijack the OP's thread but since I like Mustangs too...how do the 2010 GT Premium models stack up?
34k miles, 20K dollars |

I like Mustangs, have had 2. But for that money, I'd go with a Corvette. Will need to be somewhat older, 2010-2011, but I think would be much more fun driving.
Get what you enjoy. I know the feeling of wanting a car to enjoy the ride on the way to work in the AM... |

I don't have a 16 but an earlier GT.

Should be a no brainer. I have a 2005 GT and I like it plenty, it is pretty damn fast. But I got it for around 11500 with 110k miles on it 4 years ago. Quite a big difference, no way in hell I would pay close to 20k a 3v one unless maybe it was a mint Rousch/Saleen/Shelby. |

I would wait a little longer until the 2018s are out, which should be soon, and that will help drive down the price on used ones like this even more.

Meh. I'm not concerned about snow. I've been driving powerful RWD cars in the snow for years--with proper snow tires it's no big deal. Although we get a lot of snow, it's always cleared pretty quickly too. View Quote I wanted a vett until I bought one. I sold it within a year, I could never get comfortable with my legs straight out in front of me. Mustangs seating positions are better for my back. Good luck |

If you were in Florida I would say don't get a Mustang. While visiting, I saw more fricking Ford Mustangs than I saw Ford Tauruses. I finally got sick of seeing them.
Other than that, the Mustang GT seems to be about the best bang for the buck on the present market. It looks pretty good, the track numbers seem pretty good, price is really good and most of all, it seems like it could be a good "driver's car." If price was something of less consideration, I would choose a Hellcat or a 2017 Camaro ZL1 over the Mustang GT, or even the GT350. |

every old fart and their father has a "special edition" corvette, that's out
every secretary has a Mustang (or camaro), oh sure, yours will be a "special limited one year only edition" but it's still a secretaries car For 30 grand, you can still get a Viper. Early models for sure. Sure its uncomfortable, a bit scary, etc but it's badass and not everyone has one. Hell they make more corvettes EVERY YEAR than total vipers ever made. |

Do it.
I've got a '15 Premium, without Perf. pack. Preferred a spare tire instead. 6 speed manual. Trans is not junk as mentioned. Clutch is junk, shifter sucks ass and need better trans lube than factory crap. Up graded to BG lube, Barton shifter and now that I passed 26,000 miles it shifts butter smooth. Factory exhaust is way too quiet. I upgraded to a Magnaflow Street. And yes, I actually look forward to driving in to work now and it's been that was for 2.5 years. |
