Hey guys. So on my fat tire bike I have presta valves on my tires. My hand pump only works for schrader valves so I bought a couple of the little adapters that screw onto the presta valve to convert them. After doing so I noticed the rear tire kept going flat. Little inspection showed it was caused by the adapter but the odd thing is, the front does not leak. You should be able to keep the presta unlocked with these installed, correct? I ended up locking the rear with the adapter installed. If i need to fill it I have to unscrew it and unlock the valve. Kinda a pita but whatever.

Another question, why in the hell is the presta valve even a thing?

You could buy a pump to fit the presta valve. Another option would be to purchase tubes that are equipped with schrader valves, provided the hole through your rim is large enough to accommodate the larger valve stem. I just keep my schrader adapter in my pack and put it on when I need to inflate the tire. On the road I use a presto pump, at home I use a good old schrader type pump.

I went tubeless so I have to stick with the presta valves. I could buy a new pump but I had this mini one sitting around so I figured I might as well use it.

I never left the adapter on the tire. I carried it in my seat pack and used it as needed.

I leave the adapter on the valve when I go riding, but close the presta underneath, if that makes sense

Ditto, i carry adaptor just in case in pouch i carry in jersey pocket. Ride mountian, road, cyclocross and track

I always closed the valves. As my tubes get replaced I try to remember to get shrader valves. This is America, I don't need no fancy skinny valves anyway.

I left the adapters on and closed the valves. Thanks for the suggestions.
