That's pretty cool. Tint the windows and it will look like a hit man's car

The reality of it is, you would have had to not drive it, and keep it in the garage for it to be nice today. Or you would be spending more than it's worth to restore it. I'm glad there are people that can afford to put cars in garages and not drive them. It's cool to see an unrestored low miles original. But there aren't many folks who can. Some of us can put old cars in barns so rich guys can restore them some day.

I had a 76 Cutlass Brougham, bought from the dealer as it was a demo.... 455 engine and T tops, every option available, 1 of about 15 with the T tops and the 455...like a fool I traded it after a year as I was tired of the payments...I had 1 yr left of 124 a month....one of life's biggest regrets

In a normal world, mostly correct, however I have the tools and the expertise to do a lot of the work myself. I wrenched German imports ( mainly BMW ) for about 25 years and have an 88 BMW M5 that is still pretty sweet. I let it sit for about 6-7 years in the poverbial garage. It was amazing how well it ran and looks after a little mechanical refreshing and cosmetic ( to a larger extent)
cheers

That Olds would have been cool to see on the road today. My neighbor had 4 door Cutlass of mid 70's vintage. I was never sure why he kept it. It wasn't pretty or anything special. But his kid had a 442. It was a bit rusty but it was the only one in town. I like the Mid 70's Grand Ams too. They were good looking cars. Not many of those around anymore.

Got a couple of little items done. Bought the right battery. I had robbed the one out of my Vega to get it started. The battery hold down bolt is rusted in place. Put some Kroil on it but it isn't moving. I think it may be one with the tray now. Put in a tail lamp bulb. Now my signals work. Had some headliner falling down by the rear window. Glued it up and put the trim back on it. Adjusted my hood a little. It was low in the back. rubbed the wiper arm. My 8 track radio turns on but no sound. I'll worry about it later.

Sweet ride!

"Once it is up and running the plan is to get some NASCAR style black wheels/new tires on it, and just let it be a rat rod. "

Here's some motivation for you!

Bumpers on now.

Saw one this week end on a trailer at a car show. It had a bit more rust than mine, 350/350. Guy was asking 2K for it. It was a burgundy car, a year newer. More than I would pay. Don't know if it ran or not.

I've seen some on a Monte Carlo/Chevelle site restored and or resto moded. Makes me think about redoing it completely. But I have neither time or cash enough. And the car I really want to do for sure, is still sitting, waiting... So right now I'm sticking to just what it needs to be road worthy, fluids, brakes etc, new wheels and tires, NASCAR style spoilers. drive it, decide whether to keep or sell.

Are you familiar with the term "Murdered out"?

Google is my friend.
Yeah, kinda like that. But in Utah you can't have dark side windows on the front door. Since the doors are half the glass on these cars, I can only be half "Murdered Out".

So today was some de mousification. I took the interior out. seats, carpet and hosed everything off and used some soap and water on them. Had two mouse nests under the rear seat, nasty buggars!

Back seat bottom is good but the back has sun damage on the top. Front is ok but all the foam in the tuck and roll is shot on 60% of it, and a few small holes. But for 40 plus years old it's ok.

It was interesting taking out the interior, the stuff I found. Nothing special but with the thread about GM build quality rang true. I found some stuff. There were misc screws and nuts laying under the carpet. And there was a trim piece that I couldn't find that went on a Monte Carlo anywhere. Looks like the leading edge of a door or trailing edge of a fender. It's about 3-4 inches long. Found an animal cracker box under the seat. No nutrition information.45cents price. About 1.80 in change. Mostly 70's coins. Some pull tabs, not sure what from. But one of them must have had a contest because there were letters on the underside of the tab. The car was smoked in but no butts under the seat. Wrigleys gum wrappers.

I may need to add some braces to this. It's not as solid as the rear spoiler. But I also don't want it to solid, in case I hit something with it. I want it to be able to bend or tear off.

I finally got it on the road for a test drive. I was in for a disappointment. The trans is not shifting right. I tried changing the governor springs and it is still shifting at 75mph. Not good unless you are drag racing. I have another 400 laying around. I may try the governor from it and see what happens. It also does not seem to have the deceleration band working in second. Let off the gas in second and it free wheels. Not real happy with my trans guy right now. He says he guarantees it. We'll see.

I did get my front spoiler braces built. I had some old fender braces from one of my old Rangers that were perfect donors.

They stayed on when I got it up around 100. Not sure of the speedo accuracy though.

Not good news today. Freeze plugs seeping. Looks like water pump seeping too. Radiator top hose nipple leaking. Trans not shifting right.(swapped in another governor, now it shifts at about 65mph) Old cars, gotta love them.....

Going to let a friend of mine take the reins on the old girl. FBHO has my job being done away with. And I will need the funds to pay off my Caddy before I'm unemployed. I have a couple more projects when I get back on top of things. At least I got to drive the beast after all these years.
