will the Tahoe still run so that I can drive it?

I need to pull the cluster, and ship it away to have the lcds/leds for gear lever indicator and the DIC replaced.

While the cluster is out, I need to still use the Tahoe for short errands.

So, is it OK to reconnect the battery with the cluster out, and will the Tahoe start and run?

That's a common problem on that generation of Tahoe/Silverado. About 1/2 way down page 5 of this thread you'll see the usual culprit:http://chevroletforum.com/forum/tahoe-suburban-diy-useful-threads-61/2007-instrument-cluster-repair-36889/page5/

If you have the cluster out and can solder you could have it fixed in short order for free.

Here's a link to the part but it's probably just a cracked solder joint:http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/IRLL2705TRPBF/IRLL2705PBFCT-ND/812586

Yup, this happened to my 07 Avalanche I had. A few seconds with a soldering iron and it was fixed. Those places you send your cluster out to are a ripoff.

Hmmmm...I dunno, I'm not all that proficient with a soldering iron. I'll have to mull that over.

Definitely thanks for the responses.

We have a guy that comes to our shop and repairs them in our parking lot.
He will replace all the cluster gauge motors and any other problems for $150.00.
That includes him pulling the cluster out, not us.
Maybe there is a moble cluster repair guy near you?

Something like this.

Thanks for the info - I have the same issue with my '05.

FWIW- The 2005 will have a little different layout and electronics but still most likely bad solder joints at resistors. There's also threads and youtube videos out there for repairing that generation, here's one:

It will run.
I did that on my 2001 Tahoe a few years ago.

Classic broken solder joint, very common with the older (and even some current...) lead free stuff. Looks fairly easy to get at too and repair, use a good 60/40 or 63/37 real leaded solder and it will last forever.

You don't have to disconnect the battery to remove the cluser.

Sorry for the late reply, but I had the same problem w/ my tahoe.  I used my garmin GPS as a speedometer and trip odometer to estimate fuel use while the cluster was out for repair.
