Yep! You've got the deep fording kit! Nice score!

Just check to make sure the sealing dipsticks and vented power steering cap are in place, and all vent lines are hooked up correctly and not rotted before getting into deep water.

Details on the setup can be found here.

ETA: And before you install the exhaust stack, make sure the fender reinforcement bracket is still installed.

Ryan when you get a chance can you post up how you are going to do the rear winch? I think I might want to prepare for the future and run lines and get the mounts while the drive train is out.

I can't offer much... Only thing I've got for it installed right now is the rear mounting plate bolted to the special body brackets.

Since I'm going electric though, I've got some red 0 AWG I'm going to tap into the positive passthrough stud on the underside and run that to the back and tie into one of these surface mount studs somewhere secure. Going to do the same with the black but tie that direct to the battery.

Was going to get the winch and just go from there... I'll probably have to hunt down the clutch linkage listed in the parts manual.

Assuming I can get a hold of the military winches, as is the plan.

By the way, in case anyone was wondering, didn't win anything at the car show except a door prize of some NAPA wheel cleaner. In fairness, there were probably more than 100 cars, and some of them were pretty sharp looking including a dark green International pickup I was a fan of. Dave's and my truck were the only ones that were allowed to be touched. The kids loved climbing all over them. Told the parents if they can hold up to Marine and Army privates, they can handle kids no problem.

Best of show was a 1957 T-bird owned by a former Marine. All said, the veterans home it benefited got a nice chunk of change from the event.

Do you have the part #'s for the body brackets? I can find the rear mounting plate on ebay fo r~$100 and a diagram but no other part numbers.

Also I am finishing up ordering all of the parts for the engine work and plan on starting in two weeks. So far I have the following, let me know if you think I need any thing else:

-New hoses throughout
-New thermostat
-New belts
-New oil pan
-New fan
-New fan temp sending unit (wires on the old were got caught on the banding during shipping)
-New exhaust gaskets (the two donut shaped ones)
-New Glow plugs
-Filters for fuel and oil
-New motor mounts
-New transmission mount
-New drive shafts

Thinking of ordering one of the new power steering coolers that seem abundant on ebay since they run under $60 shipped with hoses. The old was has a lot of paint overspray. I am also having the radiator redone while its out. It was also recommended I do the water pump now since its out and easy, but it looks really good so I keep debating touching it.

86humv had just sent them to me after telling him what I was looking for so I had no idea what the part numbers were.

TM 9-2320-387-24P (page 594/879) is the TM with the rear electric winch setup diagrams you can find everywhere. According to it, the passenger side bracket is RCSK17451-1 and the driver's side is RCSK17451-2.

Almost forgot to mention... Over the weekend I traded my buddy Dave my remaining CARC and some other odds and ends for a spec ops hood mounted pioneer kit he acquired for $450 and decided he wasn't going to use.

It's not the MSG one that has the big backing plate but, it must have been an early version built by them as it uses the same component storage setup but mounts direct to the hood instead.

Here's a pic of it installed on a hood:

Attachment Attached File

For anyone looking to put together their own similar pioneer kit, it wouldn't be hard to do.

The tool holders are made by PAC and are called Handlelok mounts. They're $35 a piece.

The only other parts of this kit are the axe, pickaxe, sledgehammer, and shovel end holders. Reproducing them would be doable.

I'll post some detailed pics of them when I get a chance. The paint on them is in terrible shape and I'm going to be media blasting them and refinishing them in green, instead of tan.

Some other information I wanted to add for anyone planning on adding military antennas.

I knew that when mounting my MX-6706 antenna, it would need to clear the rear soft cargo cover when I've got that installed so I picked up a 10" antenna riser from beltfed a bit ago thinking it would be enough.

Attachment Attached File

After installing it I found it isn't and just ended up having to get one of the offset mounts.

So, if you're planning on running the soft cargo cover (or helmet top for that matter) and want to install the military antenna and be able to tie down your antennas for clearance, you'll pretty much have to run the offset mount or just mount your antennas on the side of the rear quarter panel using the standard mounts.

I know it seems like a bit of a "duh" thing that the offset mount meant for use with the soft tops works best but, I hadn't seen a whip antenna on one of the risers to know if that worked as well. Now I/we know for sure.

No big loss. I'll just end up using the riser on the Titan/FRF-115 style antenna I'm going to put together.

Ryan, Thanx for posting this.  I've been looking for the source of those clamps for a while now.  Want to build my own.  Don't particularly like the setup of the large or medium racks or the 800+ cost.  Figured I could build one just as good and more to my liking.

Looking forward to your pics of the other pieces.

I got a few cans of the Rapco 383 green to try out on some misc parts that I'd like to redo.  Tried it out on one of my rear cargo cover bows, but it just seems sooooo green.  In comparison my troop seats and the other bows are a more subdued almost sage green.  I'll have to compare it to the interior green on the truck, as it is the least aged/faded.  It may be that I'm just used to seeing old faded equipment and this is what 'new' looks like.

Found the appropriate fire extinguisher and bracket that fits on the floor beside the driver seat where it used to be, waiting on that and a radio tray/DAGR mount that was cheap enough so I'll see if I can't get it to act as a type of smartphone holster.  Gonna have to go against convention and rig something up for cupholders though.

Probably put 75 miles on the truck so far, most of it 55mph on the highway to get to town and back.  Still going great, I've only adjusted the tension on some of the belts that looked way loose.  I do notice a pretty good clunk from behind me someplace when I shift into reverse, I'm hoping these things are just that way and I won't have an automatic transmission rebuild in my future.

Currently in the tremendously fun process of hand stitching the passenger door zipper back up where it belongs.  I wasn't brave enough to try the harbor freight tool but I've had luck with some heavy seatbelt thread and a big needle.  The only thing that I really don't like is how the rounded corners of the window bunch up but I believe its just by design.  Oh well, long as it works halfways instead of not at all.  The door is so faded out that I am just fixing it to allow myself something to keep most of the critters and elements out until later on when I will probably put my money into X doors.

Ryan, that pioneer tool mount is interesting...but I envision some terrible clattering while operating the vehicles with the tools up there.  Not that 20 other things won't be clattering anyway, but you know.

It's not just you. You're spot on with that.

I didn't have a chance to get a side by side pic of Dave's and my truck but I think I can do a better comparison pic. I had sprayed my dash vent piece with Rapco a while back when installing the MRAP heater and new ducting and, I sprayed the rest of the dash with CARC during the repaint. You can definitely see a difference between the two.

The Rapco is actually a much closer match to the Monstaliner Green 383 and Green 383 on my Ibis Tek bumper than it is the CARC. The CARC, like you said, seems to be closer to a sage green. I do think some of that is due to just how flat and textured the CARC is but, I don't think that's the only reason.

Here you go, here's the pics of the individual parts.

Sorry some of them are crappy. Was trying to hurry up and take them out in the sunlight before a storm rolled in.

Shovel Holder:

Sledge Hammer Holder:

Pickaxe Holder:

Axe Holder:

Grille Mount:

The paint on that was still intact enough to paint over so I painted it to match the grille. That mar on it is just a fingerprint. My hands were damp from washing.

If anyone needs any measurements of the parts, just say so.

I'm still waiting to hear from PAC on if they offer replacement straps. I'll give them until tomorrow before I call.

Also, I love garbage day!

Found these sitting out at the curb at a house on my way home from work. Not roached out or anything. Mostly just dirty, a little normal rust. No idea why someone would throw away $80-$100 worth of perfectly good jerry cans.

Going to sell my buddy Dave the older style ones for a good price since he likes those and I don't have the nozzle for those style ones. Going to keep the flip top one though.

Ryan I would take those parts to a machine shop and see how much to duplicate. Then you could sell them at a markup like the other guys do.

Flip top is a nice score.  The other three do belong in the trash.  I have never been able to that style not to leak everywhere.  But I four wheel so maybe if they just sit in a garage they work fine.

Just wanted to make the readers and followers of this thread aware of an update I've made to the parts sources section of my OP regarding Kascar.

I made a couple changes for context and added the following:

Updated 8/23/2017: Updating this section as Ron from Kascar contacted me personally today after seeing this post, looked me up by my name and order history, and assured me they always supply OEM parts and, to contact them if there are ever any issues with parts quality. In fairness to Kascar, I'd say after several purchases from them since this was made, my experience could best be classified as a "mixed bag" though I hope any and all future purchases are all positive.

Yeah, I don't have any experience with the older style ones but, I just couldn't let a solid jerry can go to the trash heap!

In other news, here are the promised pics which do a good job showing the differences between the Sherwin Williams CARC Green 383, the Rapco Green 383, and the Monstaliner Green 383.

The air diverter box is CARC, the center vent and radio tray are Rapco, and the dog house and floor/body is Monstaliner.

Another pic... Handle is Rapco. Hood is CARC.

And, you can see how good a match the Rapco on the Ibis Tek lightbar bracket is to the Ibis Tek bumper:

Started installing my VIC-3 system this afternoon.

Cable management, like a boss!

3M Extreme double sided tape is awesome stuff.

The highway cables are going to be zip tied around the truck until I can get the rear crew station setup finalized since there are some issues I'm dealing with. Then I'll be getting some padded P-clamps to make the install nice and clean.

The adapter boxes I got from Augi on SS (those gray boxes) work perfect. Could hear my phone playing SiriusXM through the headsets! I want to find some surface mount TRRS plugs and install them somewhere accessible then silicone those to the adapter boxes since I'm a little worried about how water tight those plugs are on the boxes.

The MCS is a lot easier to program than it seems.

That's actually an M14. You can see the selector switch if you open the image in a new tab & blow it up to full size. Also, front passenger seems to be using an M16A1 & some type of Iphone or handheld GPS.

Reporting in from the great flood here in Texas. It is the worst most have ever seen. While watching high water rescues on TV, I saw a camo HMMWV with high water fording kit half submerged and abandoned. Of course the news crew was with a 4x4 off road rescue group and they pointed it out and went on about how it is not a good vehicle. Trying to find the video on abc13 local to get a screen grab.

I wish. Looking on their facebook page Houston area offroad recovery for the pic. Not sure why you would drive a truck though some of this as its too high. You need small boats for most of this area. Below is a pic from my garage yesterday evening. Luckily no water in. The cop car in the background is flooded. It kept going off last night with lights and sirens.

Holy crap! I know you guys are supposed to get rain for a couple more days. Has the water receded any since that pic?

Been following the GD thread and wishing I was closer to come down and assist with my truck. Thankfully it looks like area military vehicle owners are stepping in to help. Saw a pic of an old Deuce helping ferry people.

Also made me want to have my DWF kit installed sooner rather than later!

Try and stay safe and dry!

A DWF kit would not have made a difference in my area. Need a boat as the streets are a lot lower than the houses.

The water has gone down some. I can walk all behind my truck and there is no water. Problem is that is the bayou right there with fish, snakes, and allegedly gators. I need a very large area to drain to make a difference or break out the fishing poles to pass time as I have seen some rather nice size fish.

Also found out if you stand outside at night with night vision and IR lights, the Coast Guard will fly over you real slow trying to see where the IR light is coming from.

Jake, anytime you Texans are ready and have had enough, you can send that weather north.  Hot and dry here!

Do I notice a priority of protection, with the HMMWV deeper inside the garage than your truck or car?

Sounds like the CG might be looking for looters at night.  If they land, just tell them your looking for the gators, snakes, night fishing!

Like Ryan said, stay safe brother, and dry!

Small correction... The correct ARFCOM answer is "Get both."

Was catching up on the Harvey thread over on SS. Saw you posted an update over there Jake...

Number of folks on there out and assisting, saw one guy has a HET he's helping with. Others running Deuces, 5 tons, and FMTVs.

Saw posts that Houston PD flooded a HMMWV:

Also another post a couple 5 tons got swamped.

This bobbed Deuce was on FNC's website:

Thread is here for anyone wanting to read.

Lots of former military vehicles out. Lots broken down too, mainly the city owned ones as they were not maintained properly. I keep looking for a pic of the camo soft top one with DWF kit that was half submerged but haven't found it. It will be interesting to see how many people actually service there vehicles after running around in the high water all day.

I am also not 100% sure that the HPD HMMWV is down as it has a boat trailer hooked to it and the water doesn't seem high enough to take it out.

Another thing I keep kicking myself for is I was looking at a Gamma Goat two weeks ago. It was an awesome price, but they are a real pain to work on and the seller was really hard to work with. Would have been very useful this weekend and could have flipped it when done. At least now the wife is letting me get a boat of some sort. I keep looking for a surplus zodiac or something.

I bet... No vehicle can sit for extended spells without periodic operation and then be expected to operate hours upon hours in extraordinarily harsh conditions. I try to, at a minimum, idle my truck for a period of time once a week, going for a drive is preferable. I think I've gone 2 weeks a couple times. Same thing I do with my generators running them once a month. You never know when you're going to need them!

I thought the same thing too but then I wondered if the picture was taken after water had receded a little. Hard to say...

There's your silver lining! A Zodiac/RHIB would definitely be cool. I could swear I've seen those go through GovLiquidation in the past.

I remember some being released about 2 years ago and then showing up for sale a little over a year ago. Some were new in crates with a self inflating tank, others were used rolled up in large bags, and then some just being inflated and used. I would like to get one as well as a Mep-831A generator. Would be nice to have both and a trailer to pull behind the hmmwv.

my brother in law just bought a house in houston and was away on work in west texas when the storm hit.  luckily the water stopped short a few feet from his side of the street i hear.  the other side, standing water in homes.  unsure how he has fared with the extra rain but lack of news is hopefully good news.

humvee people, does anyone have a minute to school me on airlift bumpers?  a set of bumper+6 brackets and such just hit within an hour of me and the price seems almost too good.  its an A2, but im told all the parts will fit my A1 truck.  till now i didnt even realize there were two types of bumper.

dont think it comes with any bolts or shackles, and im not clear on how a person mounts a hitch but i assume it is a seperate new part ill have to track down.

i dont have any interesting mods or repairs to pass on, but i did catch on about a way to stop this hydraulic hissing noise that was prevalent from the firewall area on the drivers side.  turns out the cadillac valve just need a rubber buffer between it and the bracket that is mounted to the truck.  no more hissing noise.  anyone ever encounter that?

Yes, A2 bumper will fit just fine. That's what my buddy Dave has on his truck, an entire A2 bumper setup, brackets and all, from Southern Metals. My bumper itself is an A2 but I've got the A1 shackles on it because I'm too cheap to spend the premium on the teardrop shackles since it didn't come with them. No idea what iteration truck the brackets came from... It all bolts together though.

Yep! Common "problem" and common fix. Mine hasn't annoyed me enough to do it but I do intend to get around to doing the same.

Did this recently.  I was really amazed that it actually worked.  I just put a piece of old inner tube between the valve and the hose clamp and the hiss was gone.

Would like to figure out why it works and what causes the hiss to begin with.

Spotted this in GD related to all the Harvey stuff and figured I'd share it in here too for anyone that has to use your truck in deep water ops.

Make sure your seals and breather hoses are in good shape, especially if you don't have the DWF kit with the driveline pressurization setup.

I've continued to do reading. It appears that the NC legislature, after passing a law to "make this easy", did the opposite. To register a humvee requires an affidavit from the seller that it is road worthy that gov planet will never sign. I have heard rumors that it is possible to register the vehicle out of state in Vermont. Has anyone done this, and if so, do you have more information? I'm expecting to have the cash to do this ready by December, but don't want to bid if I can't be guaranteed that I can use it on road.

Vermont registration is my plan B (no pun intended) if the Ohio BMV goes full retard and revokes my registration before we can get some sort of legislative remedy. Technically in Ohio you have to register an out of state registration within 30 days but my brother who is a county deputy told me there isn't really any penalty for it.

I saved this video on the procedure for future reference should it be needed:

Lost Car Title? How to get paperwork for your used car EASILY!

Seems you could definitely get whoever "sells it to you" to satisfy Vermont could just as easily sign the affidavit.

Im running off of slowed down mobile internet because i live in the middle of nowhere.  the tan truck is one of our QRF mobiles from joint base balad, iraq 2009.  at the time I was a young man and obsessed with going home to buy a 2005 duramax, and not so interested in humvees.  therefore this is the best picture i have.  im surprised to see we were using the 12 bolt wheels as opposed to the 24.  we had the squared off rear bed cover instead of a slantback, and the truck was absolutely loaded with electronic warfare stuff.  airlift bumper and rhino carrier on the back.  unsure of which model you would call the truck, we just knew them as uparmored humvees.

second photo is a close up of the KYANG units horsehead emblem on my m998a1.  i will put it back on there whenever i repaint.

im going through with an a2 bumper purchase locally.  everything except the 4 spacers (found online for $40) and the left and right inner brace that i cant locate.  it being the steel bumper i believe i can slap my old pintle back on it, and then i need to hunt down the shackles.  or not.  id like it to be complete but not like i need them.

the hunt for front x doors continues, im hoping they start being surplused in batches because i can only find them ragged out for 1000 a piece.

Looking good!

As for the 4 man setup, I'd say it's up to what you think your needs are going to be. If you think you're going to be hauling more stuff than people it might be worth keeping it 2 door or, vice versa. I do think the 4 man is a little easier to seal off from the elements since the cargo partition and curtain go between the rear fenders while the two man has the space under the B-pillar reinforcements you have to worry about.

Cool pic of your original truck!

Just an FYI, you can get away without using the spacers if you need to. Mine doesn't have them. Or, you can just use some Grade 8 washers.

Good luck on the X-doors. So far as I know Southern Metals hasn't had new trucks with them in a while, or at least trucks whose parts didn't go to people with connections, so there aren't even ones for flippers to sell.

oh my that poor humvee!  i notice they arent using their rhino carrier.  be nice if they could send that to me.

i used to see these IFP dudes out and about in blue camo crewcab f250s.

Waiting on a boatload of small new parts to show up, including a new generic 24v windshield washer pump.  got some meguilars plastx to try on my windows when i get some time, and found a good price on teardrop shackles for the a2 bumper i have coming in in pieces for the rest of the month.  theres a pic of some avenger humvees where they continued the 3 color scheme onto the bumper, ill keep that in mind next year when I repaint.

i shot an email to the people at weebee webbing to see if they can make new OEM style covers for the green highback seats, but if anyone knows a source, let me know.  my passenger seat has a repairable rip but has turned completely blue, and the driver seat is in great condition save for a really nasty gouge sooooo.

i keep eyeing my empty radio tray as though it needs some higher purpose.  i dont see much need for a innertruck comm system in a two man cab but hell, you guys got pretty heavy into those VIC systems and we had those during my deployment so maybe ill give it a try.  what is the basic equipment id need for two headsets to work with each other?

You can go with the VIC-1, VIC-3 Full, or VIC-3 Lite. VIC-1s seem to be pretty plentiful right now. VIC-3 Lite components, somewhat uncommon but can be found with some patience. And for some reason, VIC-3 Full components are as rare as hen's teeth right now. Going on 3 months now trying to find a 4th full function crew station for my system...

The VIC-1 system is a much older system and you can't use new things like the noise canceling headsets. VIC-3 components are not interchangeable with it. It would work but the VIC-3 is a better and newer system.

The Lite system, for a 2 man setup, will have a smaller footprint and you'd only need the master control station, 1 dual crew box, 2 highway cables (one to the crew station, one from the crew station to the MCS), 2 bailout cables, and 2 headsets. Should you want to mount it to your radio tray correctly, you'd also want the mounting plate for the VIC system. Of course, you can really mount it wherever and however you want.

The Full system will need a master control station (which will take up most of the VIC panel for the radio tray), 2 full function crew stations, 3 highway cables to interconnect everything, and then like the Lite system 2 bailout cables and 2 headsets.

beltfed34 has most all of the cables you need. If you contact him through G503, he'll cut you better prices than what he's got them on eBay for. Just find the ones on eBay you're looking at getting and let him know or, if you don't see them ask. The hardest to come by seems to be the power cable that goes from the SINCGARS power block to the MCS. Making one from scratch that bypassed the SINCGARS power block wouldn't be impossible though since the MCS side is literally just 2 pins, positive and negative. You'd just have to figure out the correct connector type and pin out.

The most popular headsets for the VIC-3 systems are the Bose and Racal headsets. I went with the Racals because they were only $14 shipped each off eBay.

After using my system with a couple passengers over the weekend, it works great! Very clear audio in and out. The adapter boxes also worked great for listening to tunes through the system.

This reminds me I haven't taken any pics since I completed the install. so I'll have to do that soon. Some of the setup is only temporary pending getting the 4th crew station.

Finally picked up a couple new LED rear/reverse lights. When looking I found a new style that's come out with 9 diodes in the same form factor as the 6 diode housing. Claims to be much brighter than the 6 diode versions. They're also multivolt.

Have a 6 diode that got broken off my zero turn a while ago to compare to it.

Still haven't decided how I'm going to wire them up, if I'm going to add a reverse switch to the shifter quadrant or if I'm going to make them manually switched. Possibly some combination...

Mounted to the GPS antenna mounts:

Also, a couple pics of my VIC install.

As mentioned, I still need a 4th crew station so some of the install is only zip tied but it's all located in the general vicinity it will end up. Need to get some P-clamps for the cables that are staying where they are.

Highway cable on the passenger side is run through the P-clamps for the heat duct and zip tied to that. Will put some P-clamps along the driver's side rail for the return side highway cable. I removed one of the twist locks on the B-pillar to make room for the FFCS and installed some rivnuts. I'll do the same for the 4th FFCS when I get it.

Would like to figure out some solutions for keeping the headsets a little more organized...
