Just bought one of these cars and it seems to be a fast and fun car I have not driven it yet. I have to get hand controls installed next week.

RWD and 400hp in Idaho?  Make sure you get a good pair of snow tires.

They're pretty fun to drive. Decently fast. Don't know much more about them other than that

When you get it converted can you show pictures of the hand controls? Honestly intrigued and never seen them in a car before

Have fun in the new ride

Cool cars.  It's a shame GM didn't keep importing and building them under the Chevy badge with a different name after they killed Pontiac.

I thought that the Malibu SS was pretty much the same. A rebadged Holden.

I am pretty sure the GTO's has some serious suspension issues IIRC.

No.

Premature wear, mostly caused by the way they were shipped. Nothing serious.

And post some pics OP. I love my '04.

No.  Not the Malibu SS.  It's just called the Chevrolet SS.  Same platform as the police Imapala.

Chevrolet SS

Personally, I think the GTO/G8/SS/Holden platform is the best sedan GM has ever made.

Enjoy it op.

Front struts and front radius rod bushings should be changed out. Check the front swaybar end links to see if they're bent or the bushings are toast. Rear shocks may be worn out too by now.

To replace everything above with good quality aftermarket parts will be $700-900, plus labor.

I believe the Chevy PPV Caprice and Chevy SS share a common platform (rwd and v8). I drive a 14 Caprice.

Pretty sure The SS is the Zeta platform which evolved from the V platform.

I had to check, but yes the late model SS apparently uses the Zeta platform, as does the PPV Caprice. I was commenting on the post indicating that the Impala was related to the SS, which I don't believe it is.

And all made overseas.

I don't know what they are gonna do when they shut down Holden in the next year or two.

BTW, Supercars on on CBS SN right now.

6.0 (355hp). Not sure, but I believe 6.0 was only engine offered in 14.

How/why did GM manage to lose power in 8yrs?

Seems counterproductive to have an 6.0 making 400hp and downgrade when adding more weight.

Honestly I'm far from a GM car SME. I like the 14 Caprice as a patrol car, but the MyLink radio in it, not so much (dealer can't fix a defect apparently).

Probably emissions + not doing any work to the motor to compensate.

Which motor are you talking about? The GTO ceased production in 2006.

GTO came with the LS2. Caprice has the L77 which is basically the Vortec L96 engine found in most HD trucks. Difference being it runs on regular fuel, has cylinder deactivation, "flex fuel" capable and is tuned for more low end torque.

I was gonna say, didn't sound like an LS. Even though the truck motor is. Sort of.

Early GTO came with a ls1. The L77 is the same as the L76 found in the GT G8 but come from the factory with flex fuel, both are the same as a LS2 with all the tree hugger options, I hated the DOD on my G8, it was the first thing I had tuned out.

I bought this one new (04 quicksilver / red interior 6spd)  in Jan 2005 and took it to the GTO Nationals in the summer of 2005.  Came in 2nd place to that gold 71 as I broke out.  Was running 13.7s all damn day (totally stock) in 100 degree temps.

The coolest thing about this car was the factory shift light in the gauge cluster.  If you dont know what I'm talking about or haven't activated your yet, you need to do it ASAP.  You'll thank me later.  For whatever dumbass reason Pontiac didn't activate them at the factory but showed them in original advertising.  Go figure.
