From rockauto.com for a 2001 Tahoe (same basic front as you have) runs from $784 to $1180 (with core charge) plus delivery. Either 3.73 or 4.10 ratios in stock ready to install. And I must say, install is pretty easy.

I just took a closer look, it lists the same front diff under 2002 Cadillac Escalade for the same price.

I wouldn't trust AAMCO or any other nationwide repair shop to guard a warm cup of piss... If this was a 12 year old truck, I would have just disconnected the front diff and called it a day.
