I've got a 98 ranger with the 3.0. And a blown head gasket.

None of that is an issue already got it torn down and heads go to the machine shop tomorrow.

Problem is head bolts

Plus the engine isn't original I found salvage yard marks on it.

How do I know if this is the old style torque to a lbs setting or new style torque to angle engine?

Is there a way to tell?

Help appreciated.

Typically if the bolt has a washer built in, it is torque to yield.

If it is just the conventional hex head bolt, it is not.

.
"A" is old style and "B" is torque to yield style.

Have it checked for cracks. I worked on one that had a crack in the exhaust port
