Pics don't do the sand depth justice, wife on her DR350 riding off road for the first time.

One of the many puddle crossings (got the new bike REALLY dirty).

Very easy to get lost in Wharton State Forest.

Looks like fun riding...but damn dude, get some real offroad boots for both of you! Trust me, the reconstructive surgery on your ankle is about 8000x more expensive and unpleasant.

I sent mine out as a donation for my buddy's borrowed gear bin in CA (see previous pics), my and her new ones we supposed to be here in time, but they weren't. I completely agree, we were taking it VERY easy due to our lack of footwear. ETA: Boots arrived! some Forma's should be a big improvement!

I just got my mid pipe from Procycle to run a GSXR can on my DR. I've got an X24F0X which looks like the same one you have.   How do you like it?  Can you also tell me if you are using the ProTaper ADV handlebars?  If so, are they the standard or the high?  I'm thinking about the high but don't want to have to run new cables.  I have 2" risers on the stock bars now and could use another inch or two of height. I have lowered pegs and a tall seat concepts seat but am still bent over standing up.

Here she is now.

Yeah, MX dies down a lot in the off season here. I hate paying to ride a muddy ungroomed track.

I sold the bike a couple years ago. I had the X35F0X muffler. I loved it. I had an FMF on it before, but the re-packing part sucked. The GSXR muffler was loud, but not as loud as the FMF but didn't even need to be repacked.

They weren't pro-taper bars, just some cheap fat bars. I used the protaper pad so I could mount the Trailtech computer in the pad. It was a pretty nice setup with the compute right in the bar pad.

Absolutely. But I bought an 07 R6 which I like more, and I didn't really have space for two bikes so the DR went. There wasn't really much left on the DR that was stock. I can't think of anything, except maybe the frame.

My mid-life crisis purchase. I'm 47 years old and have never had a motorcycle, and always wanted one. I wanted something just to ride trails because at my age I'm not going to be motocross racing. I've read a lot of negative comments about this bike regarding lack of power and such, but I don't care. It's perfect for what I want to do.

That's a PERFECT bike for someone your age riding for the first time. It would be harder for me to come up with a better choice, and riding trails is the perfect place to enter the world of two wheels....if everyone started there I think motorcycling would be a much less risky venture.

I'm thankful I started the same way, on a smaller, easy-to-handle and fun little scoot where I learned all the hard lessons without too much risk. Made me a vastly better rider than many of my peers who over-bought and under rode.

If you move up in power, or ride the street, your skills will transfer up pretty effortlessly...or you may find just like I did that riding a smaller bike is a fun all it's own. I put 25k offroad miles on a little TTR250, simple little trail bike that it was, and had a ball on it.

Thanks, it's nice to know I made a good choice! At the same time I bought this bike I bought a CRF125F Big Wheel for my two boys. Yeah, they have to share because I had to have a bike of my own. In a few years if I want to step up I can give the 230 to my boys and move to a 250.

Nothing wrong with that. You gotta start somewhere.  Have fun and be careful. And don't cheap out in safety gear. Work boots are not good riding boots if you value your ankles.

That's the thing I tell everyone who wants to start out on a bigger bike - the first bike is sacrificial, while you're riding and having fun on it and getting more skills (faster), you're just working towards the bike you're going to end up on. Best case? You find you like a smaller bike and you just stay put. Worst case? You give it to your kid or sell it for close to what you paid for it...and you're a better rider for it. But, few people listen.

Took her out for a short ride last week.

I'm torn guys. I love it but I've taken two falls, one going down a dirt rode at 20mph and another in a parking lot when a car cut me off. The first fall wasn't bad but the 2nd one, while I was going under 15mph, really banged me up on the concrete.

Combine that with a 9 month old baby and I'm wondering if it's worth it. It's a great bike and less than 9000 miles on it, I'm just not sure if I should keep riding or sell it and put the money towards something else.

2 days ago, while trying out a newly installed 11oz fly wheel weight on the YZ250. Adds a bit of tractability for slower narly rocky offroad, like here in the NC mtns. Also takes some of the edge off the midrange hit.

Today installed some sweet 2011 KYB SSS forks, revalved and re-sprung by Factory Connection.

Depends on the terrain. There are places where a 250 is anemic...and places where it's too much bike.

If I were in the desert, a 2-smoke Service Honda 500 would be the tits. In the tight woods? I'm faster on a 150xcw than a 250.

I ride MX tracks. The 250 is popular there because you can race it against the 250F's as an amateur.

50 hp in a bike that weighs 225 wet. That's a good combo.

2009 KLX250 on a Dodge Dakota with a Cycle Country Wedge Lok rack.  I've got around 2000 miles on that rack I guess - no problems as long as I pay attention to the same clearance issues you would watch with a trailer.

Off to "the range" with an SLR-107FR.

Rockbridge Baths, permission from farmer: "mind the gates and don't tell me if you get hurt back there."

Little Mountain wildlife management area.

Gates, psha.  Saw my first black bear in the wild out here. Or rather, it's big round shiny backside jiggling up the hill as it went the other direction.

Custm Taylor rim tapes - awesome product, about $40/set, and he can do all kinds of custom decals, and will often throw in some extras with your order.

Proof I'm not a beer snob.
