^whoa. I officially love Oregon now. Jeez, what a view. You can see for miles and miles and yet not a single ass-clown in a F250 Brodozer wrecking the vignette.  You can't swing a dead cat without hitting five of them where I live.

Fuckity fuck fuck. Broke off an oil filter cover bolt. I guess I have been overestimating "7 ft/lbs" for the all the previous oil changes. My torque wrench only goes down to 10 ft/lbs.

First I'm gonna try to close down the chuck on my drill almost all the way and press it to the edge of the bolt and see if it will turn it. It wasn't a clean snap, so there might be enough jagged material for it to grab onto. I'll have to double check when I can get back home tomorrow.

Then I'll move to a left-hand-turn bit and extraction tool if need be.

Really put a damper on my day. I wanted to get some riding in before I went back to work.

It's easy to do,  my hands are calibrated to car torque values.  I have one of those little 1/4 drive Tq wrenches for just these little fuckers that are everywhere on bikes.  It still surprises me when I hear/feel the click,  " that's it?" .  I would have stripped that fucker for sure.

I really liked this bike when I got it, after doing the spring fork conversion I love it.

But, I'm gonna be ordering a 19 soon. Gonna keep this one, but it's gonna be a backup ride at this point.

Don't bother with a torque wrench on that stuff. Just use a 1/4" T handle and use the German torque spec of Gutentight. You basically tighten fasteners like that finger tight plus 1/4-1/2 rotation past when it stops with your fingers.

Or get a torque wrench that reads in inch lbs

Yeah, I'll probably just end up picking up an in/lbs torque wrench, just to be safe.

I jammed a pencil eraser up against the broken bolt, kept pressure on it, and unscrewed it until it came out.

Basically the same strategy as using a cut-in-half potato to unscrew a broken light bulb.
