Trying to decide on either a 2'' BDS or Teraflex lift...

BDS >> Teraflex

BDS shocks and Springs are about the best in the business for TJ's. Only OME really gives them a run for their money.

Why do you not like either company?

I like their "break it, we supply it" guarantee.

Everyone that has one seems to like the ride quality.

It's not that I "don't like either company," I just don't like their suspension offerings for the TJ over other options.  They put a lot more time into the JK as far as jeeps go, and have some good stuff there... but still not what I'd run there either.  However, I'd pick BDS for my F150 in an instant.

You can't go wrong with 2.5in OME springs and OME shocks.  I doubt you will find a single person that does not like them.

Once you get into arms, track bar, etc. is where BDS and Teraflex really fall behind other companies like Currie/Savvy, Metalcloak, Rokmen, and JKS (to an extent).

Example, I run 2.5in OME HD springs, OME shocks, JKS F&R track bars, JKS disconnects, Rokmen JJ control arms, Rokmen tummy tuck/skids currently.

JKS front track bar will go for Metalcloak when I move to 3.5in Metalcloak springs on matching Metalcloak or OME shocks.

Steering will be Currie/Savvy.

Fenders/corner armor will be Metalcloak.  For underbody, I prefer Rokmen and that's what I've got there.

I have no brand preference other than picking a combination that works well together.  Currie/Savvy or Metalcloak arms could easily replace the Rokmen ones and vice versa, but not so with the BDS or teraflex ones, Rokmen just happened to have a killer deal at the time I was buying the transfer case lift/skid.

The DPG ultimate kit is solid.  If it was my money, I'd get the Deluxe and go with Metalcloak for the trackbars.  A bit more clearance than the JKS ones.

The browndog motor mounts are well worth the upgrade if your motor mounts are worn, but I'd go with poly vs the rubber on the TJ.  I run the browndog HD engine brackets and poly 1in mounts on the TJ, on my XJ I have the rubber mounts (because unibody).

As far as "breaking" anything vs it wearing out eventually, you simply won't.

Do it once, do it right.  You can build up a sweet rig from the DPG Deluxe + MC trackbars without replacing any of those parts.  Basically what I started with.

Just got done putting smittybilt XRC bumpers on my 99 Jeep TJ

In case anyone else is ever searching for installation tips, The front was straight forward.. Took me longer to get the old hodgepodge thing off and apart to get the winch off than the new one on.
The Rear bumper I also tried to install without dropping the tank but that ended up not working. Dropping the tank only added about and hour total to the entire install and made it WAY WAY WAY more easy to install those 4 inner bolts.
Overall, very happy with them.

Now to find a lowprofile 8" LED bar to replace the round lights.

Maybe.  Helmets are required on the HMT.

I use an Axel Offroad helmet. It's pretty much a skateboard helmet.

Finally ready to play.

I finally got around to installing the custom Kit from DPG. It took a lot less time than I anticipated, but was still a little troublesome at times. I really like the end result and the ride quality that it produces. The Kit also came with the JKS quicker disconnects, JKS Adj track bar, and rear disconnects as well. (I will be installing a rear JKS track bar in the future)

I do have some new vibration issues in 1st and 2nd gear which I assume is from the new angle of the drive shaft? I would like to know how to go about fixing this issue. If anyone could give me other diagnosis I would really appreciate it.

Besides that, the feel and ride is top notch.:)

Anyways, here it is.

As of today:

Generally speaking, EasTexan, over 2" of lift on a TJ and you're 'pushing it' on the driveline vibes. You didn't mention how much lift you've got on there.

There's really only two fixes. The 'correct' fix is to install a Slip-yoke eliminator on the back of the transfer case, and a new driveshaft. This eliminates the problem.

You can also patch it by 'fixing' the driveline angles, either by lowering the transfer case (if the vibes are small, a couple washers on each side might work), or by raising the front of the motor (a motor mount lift). The latter really requires a body lift as well, to fit.

2.5'' Old Man Emu lift.

I was told by the owner of DPG Offroad that the MML and Body lift would not be necessary. (I didn't want the look of the added lift on 31's either)

The vibes I am getting are fairly small. I'd like to find a way to do this without spending a lot of money on a SYE and driveshaft.

motor mount lift and washers between the t case and the frame. You don't have to use a body lift with a MML. However, I like a 1 -1.25 inch body lift to set up a tummy tuck...

SYE is where its at though, think of it this way. lowering your t case reverses the suspension lift you just put on.

I'd start with just washers. You probably won't need more than that if it's just a little. 3-4 washers will probably get it done on just a 2.5" OME.

Traded my Range Rover HSE in on this last week. Pretty bare compared to some of the awesome Jeeps in this thread but it's mine and so far I love it. I've always wanted one and don't know what took me so long to get here.  Loaded 2010, nearly perfect condition Sahara with 37,000 miles. So over the Rovers (still have my 95 LWB Classic though which I do love because it's a beast and I can't bring myself to sell it.  )

It looks nice & unmolested... Quick - go get a winch bumper for it.  I've got the same wheels - I've decided to throw some 275/70R18's on it. For trail running/overland stuff, I don't think I need 37's...

This is at a buddies house and yes he needs to get his leaves picked up.

It looks nice & unmolested... Quick - go get a winch bumper for it.  I've got the same wheels - I've decided to throw some 275/70R18's on it. For trail running/overland stuff, I don't think I need 37's...

Ugh...here we go. I don't need a winch.  But if I did, what kind of winch would I need?

I'm a Jeep noob.

for that 4 door JK I would recommend at least a 10K. Warn Zeon is a good start...(might as well start off right, right?) the rule of thumb is 1.5 to 2x's vehicle weight for your winch. For my TJ on 35's I am running a Warn M8000.

There's a few more options in the 9.5k realm, and I think those are adequate for a JKU. Just stay away from the 8000#'ers, those just aren't enough winch for you.

The Zeon is a hell of a winch, but it's also $$. For the more casual user, there's a lot of options out there.

Read up, there's just a ton of options out there. For a taste, check out what Q-tec has to offer: http://www.quadratec.com/advisor/jeep_winch/

Personally, I very rarely need a winch, so I went with a winch for someone who rarely needs one - a Q9500i.

Just got my latest Jeep in Jan, newest addition is a Warn Zeon 8, Smittybilt raised mount, new hooks with captive eyes, Optima yellow top and the big 3 upgrade with all cables mechanically connected with terminal ends.

Also went with military top post connectors for all the hookups.

If you are going to use it infrequently, for recovery - a Smittybilt or Quadratec winch, 9500 lbs & up will work fine for a stock JKU. The heavier you make your rig, or the more stuff you haul - the bigger you'll want to go in size. We've used the 9500lb Smittybilt mounted to the JK to pull my high-centered FJ80 out of a mud hole, and it's as heavy as most JKU's. If you plan on using it all the time, I guess save for the Warn. But most Warns are being made in Chinese factories as well these days from what I hear.

When I get a winch for the Landcruiser - if I buy new, it'll be another Smittybilt, probably the 12K model.

We like to go exploring, in some remote locations. Having a winch is peace of mind - plus it's actually got me out of a sticky situation or two.

Thanks for the winch advice. Would be infrequent use, most likely, and not at the top of my list right now but I'll do some looking around based on what you guys posted.

Also look into using a snatch block to increase the pulling capacity.

The Warn link below contains winching do's and dont's:

I installed 17/59 springs and Rubicon shocks. Now I desperately want 15s and 33x12.50s.

My 2008 GC Overland Diesel (Merc OM642 turbo diesel)
Wheels and tires (32" KM1 BFG Mud-terrains) from a 2013 Rubicon with 1.5" wheel spacers. 2.5" spacer and strut plate lift with bilsteins. I removed the exhaust resonator for sound. It's got a Rola roof rack with extension for carrying camping supplies, 35w HID bulbs in the factory fog light housings and a Travall pet cage and Weather Tech cargo liner in the rear to manage my always filthy dog.
It's been a champ for 140k miles with a blown fuse being the only issue. It's great for fire roads and light trails. It pulls a trailer for track days and works perfectly for a camping/shooting vehicle while returning ~20 mpg in daily driving.
