It's a belt, and they are non interference.
130k isn't unheard of, but it is a little too long. 60k is recommended, they later changed that to 90k. You are looking at roughly 1k to do it right. T-belt, Water Pump, Tensioner, Idlers and Drive belts if needed. |

That's what I've was suspecting after doing it on my Honda. It's a comfortable car, if I subtract the cost from the repair price, that puts the selling price down to $2200 or so according to KBB.

The Avalon is a great car, I'm on my 3rd since 1996. My 2011 is my favorite. Find a private shop to do the work, not a stealer ship.

It is a belt motor, and non interference engine. Idlers and tensioners rarely go bad, and most dealerships will run specials on t-belt jobs but don't include water pumps or cam and crank seals if needed.

We do those belts all the time. They're super easy to change, and rarely do we see the seals leaking at that low of mileage.
I'd do the belt, and water pump at the bare minimum, and sleep easy at night. Too bad you're not closer to AZ, I'd do it for you, and save you a ton of money!! |

I'd buy you parts and your favorite bottle of scotch-
Strangely enough I've been calling around and have quotes of $1400 (PepBoys) to $400 (Ken's Tire store-but he said it was an interference engine which lead me to believe that he was clueless). I've got one more place tomorrow that has a good rep, then will act. Thanks everyone-I hate dealing with cars-especially buying from Family. But it should be good for another 100,000 miles and get me to the point that I pay off the house (which is my ultimate goal). Originally Posted By kevhogAZ: We do those belts all the time.
