I've never seen one of those. So it's a turbocharged Thunderbird? V8?

2.3 liter turbo four cylinder. The 5-speed cars were rated at 190 hp. Think of it as a stretched Fox body Mustang, since the cars are based on the same platform. That means it's got an unlimited aftermarket––add a tubular front suspension, rear torque arm, and SN95 spindles/brakes/5-lug swap, and you've got a great (not so) little car.
I've got a bare unibody for one, and I keep saying that one day I'll do something with it... |

Know where one is sitting, popped motor, and would LOVE to put a mild 5.0/ 5 speed in place of the turbo 4.
Hmmmm... |

I drove one for a short time in the early nineties, it was a loaner from a friend. The example I drove was a like new insanely low mileage example with five speed transmission. It was surprisingly fast, much faster than I expected given its weight and not that impressive HP rating.

A guy I know in law school had one of those turbo T birds with the nice interior etc. It was a really nice car in 1986, I am unsure why someone would want one now.

My girlfriend's parents in high school had an 87. It was fun to drive, but it was heavy for the turbo 4, had massive understeer in corners and really needed another 100 hp to be a fast car. If I remember, the turbo was pretty large on it, so boost was on/off at about 3k.

It was an AWD turbo 4 in a lightweight escort body. C. The Cosworth Merkurs were nasty rally cars. It's basically what he WRX and Lancer Evo are now, except smaller and lighter... ![]() |

I had a '93 TBird with the 5.0. That was one of the best cars I've ever owned. I had it parked in the street and a 16 year old kid came flying around the corner and crushed the entire left side from the front to the back.................................I was like...........

Mine's been great, bought it with cash in 04 and put on some good tires and adjustable suspension, but the motor's a little tired and needs some oil seals and valve seals... |

My Supercoupe, one of 722 five-speeds built in 94. Currently sends 377 hp and 459 lb-ft to the wheels.

Everything. The block is bored .040 over with a 4.2 crank, so it's now a 4.3 (260 CID). It's got forged h-beam rods and forged Wiseco pistons. The heads are ported and polished, with oversized SS valves and a 3-angle valve job. The cam is a Comp hydraulic roller with .580/.580 lift. The blower has a Magnum Powers MPx case and is overdriven 25%. The intercooler is made from 2 stock ICs, and it's got Snow methanol injection. Exhaust runs through Kooks midlength headers and a custom true dual exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers.
The driveline includes an aluminum flywheel, Centerforce dual friction clutch, aluminum driveshaft, and aluminum rear center section with a True Trac diff. The suspension includes custom Koni coilovers in front w/600 lb springs, and the rear ST springs are cut 3/4 coil. It has a 1-1/4 sway bar in front, and 1-1/8 in back. I converted the car to the 5x4.5 bolt pattern so I can run Mustang wheels. On the street I run 10th Anny Cobra wheels, and 95 Cobra Rs for race rubber. It has 00 Cobra R front brakes (4-pot Brembo pistons and 13-inch rotors) with Cobra rotors and stock calipers in back. I've dropped ~250 lbs from the car thanks to a fiberglass 97-style hood, tiny battery, 00 Cobra R Recaro seats, custom IC tubes, stereo delete, etc. We were pretty thorough in weight reduction, and it's now around 3,430 pounds. That's heavy, but it's very light for the MN12 platform. I used to autocross the car pretty seriously, but it's just too heavy. Now it's just my fun street car. Overall, I love the car. The only things I still want to do are put in color-coded 97-style door handles, and replace the Eaton blower with a Whipple or TVS blower. |

I need another quick car |

Yeah, obviously I know the Turbo Coupe and Supercoupe are totally different platforms (Fox vs. MN12), but we got to talking T-Birds, so I thought I'd put up a pic of my car anyway. Hope the OP doesn't mind.
