1970 Torino Cobra for the win.
429 super cobra jet goodness.
The 429SCJ cars (Torino/Montego/Mustang) with automatics and 4.30 gears were the quickest factory Fords from the 1960s-1970s. They were quicker than a Boss 351 from the factory.

I'm looking at a 71 right now...
You can't go wrong with a 70-71 429 car...
Quicker than an 1966 Fairlane 427 2x4 with 4 speed?
Rhetorical question is rhetorical..
You can't compare that limited production car (92 cars) or the Thunderbolt, etc which was/were only sold to racing teams with a regular production option found in 4 different car/truck platforms and available to anyone fortunate enough to check the axle ratio box of 3.91, 4.11 or 4.30.
So to answer your question, yes a very lightweight dedicated factory drag race car would be quicker than the 429SCJ cars...
Most people are no nearer to affording them now than their fathers or (great) grandfathers could afford them in the 60s.
