Instead of using a self-contained hand-held reader, what are my options for using Windows and some kind of OBD2 dongle?

At the very least, I'd like to be able to read and clear codes and view real time data for things like coolant temp, trans fluid temp, fuel trim, etc.

I see lots of wireless dongles available, but prices vary quite a bit and a lot of them seem unreliable. I have a 2004 GM and 2001 Honda, but I'd like something that will work with just about everything.

I bought a cheap usb dongle on ebay like this one, it came with a CD full of OBD programs. Worked fine to get the error codes I needed to fix the car

Any of those programs work to retrieve sensor data?
