I have five of these en route and they will be married up to 17" 265 KM2's before I head to Moab in Sept.

I also have a bed rack being fabbed, which will hold a shovel, roto pax fuel and water cans, hi-lift and spare on top or a roof top tent (RTT).

I saw this in Pull-a-Part a couple of weeks ago. I asked one of the guys at the counter about it, and he said that it ran and drove when they brought it in, but people were only interested in the engine. Marty McFly is not happy.

So would I. It would've made a great "fix up as time and money permitted" project. I was in a hurry, so I didn't stop to look at it, but the body was in great shape. I wanted to see if it was 22R(E) or not, but with the engine being absent, I probably wouldn't have been able to tell.

Thank you both... Some of the local guys have noted that my truck has a little bit of an identity crisis going on because it is used like an expo rig but looks (at least without the camper) like more of a prerunner since I went tubular instead of plate to cut down on weight, and it has seen its share of crawling but very little mud or snow so the tires seem like an odd choice to some folks. But basically it does everything I have wanted (or needed) it to do, and I'm still a long way from being finished with it.

x2, I could care less about center caps on any wheels because whether they're plastic or aluminum I will inevitably break them off-road in less than a month. You'll notice I don't have center caps on either set of wheels on my truck.

I'm going to price KM2s today and order my lift kit.

I'm only 25 days out from my Utah trip.

I don't think I'm going to be as ready as I want to be, but I'm only hitting light stuff like forest roads and the White Rim, but that's 122 miles off road all at once with no support on the trail.

I have all my pioneer gear from the JK, but no winch this time/yet.

You'll be fine on those trails alone, with or without a winch. I don't have a winch and I've soloed 250+ mile expeditionary trails in AZ, UT, and WA... just have your basics covered for recovery gear, double check everything before you leave the highway (pressure in the spare, fluids, condition of straps, have plenty of backup water, etc.). When I'm alone I avoid unnecessary challenges and don't do anything risky regardless of how far out I am... I'd rather not have to dig myself out of something or put myself in a position that might necessitate relying on someone else for assistance even if I'm within earshot of a major highway. Air down as little as possible to start off... I usually keep 22lbs or so in my 33x11.5s for graded dirt roads and I adjust down from there. Having a small 12v compressor is a huge help as well for when you get back on the road.

Yes indeed! I just took a 4,000 mile trip in June and stopped by there along the coast. Left Phoenix and went through LA to see some of my fiancee's family, then hopped on the PCH near Pismo and took it all the way to WA, then back down through ID, MT, WY, CO, NM where my best friend lives, and finally made it home. 13 days total, great drive, and stopping places like that make it so much more worthwhile.

I love it, it probably cuts my mileage by 3-4 mpg, but it's super solid, and huge. I got one of these to pack lighter weight camp gear up top, which saves a lot of room inside:

My girlfriend and I were up there last summer, it's beautiful. We stopped at that light for about 5 minutes and happened to see a bunch of whales out near the whale shaped rock to the south of the cape. I want to go back so bad.

The rack came out perfect.

After installation, I took a 20 mile shakedown cruise to see how things went.

I fastened it with 1 x 1/2" carriage bolts, which fit perfectly in the Tacoma rail system.

My Rotopax are in.

I need to weld up a bracket on the rack so they sit about 2" higher than they're sitting in the pic.

Edited to add:

UPS dude just rang the bell and dropped off my All Pro high clearance bumper with hidden class III hitch.  I need to get those powder coated.

The weight of these has solidified my decision to get heavy duty expedition Dakar springs for the back.  I'm guessing I'm at around 300 lbs in the rear for everything.

I may put this on when I get back, since I don't want my stock suspension bottoming.

The bed rack was reinstalled today with the new Rotopax mounts, relocated the hi-lift from the passenger side of the rack to the rear and mounted the spare on top.

This leaves my entire cargo space open and places most weight in the middle and not hanging off the ass end.
