Pretty good advice.  I've been a little more aggressive on the foreign stocks, and during the last down turn put some over into the bond market.  Yields aren't great in the bond market, but are usually stable.

If you're 25+ years away why aren't you using a targeted retirement account? That's what I'm doing and I'm seeing 12%.

Out of that list,  I'd go for the institutional index fund.  That's probably the lowest cost, too.

It doesn't look like Transamerica is offering my company a targeted retirement account. I wish I was seeing 12%. That's why I posted the question.

Transamerica Partners Instl Stock Index is an institutional index fund.  DISFX

This is an S&P 500 index fund with a 0.3% expense ratio.  Index funds typically have far lower expense ratios than activley managed funds.  And tracking the S&P 500 is a solid move that covers a pretty good chunk of the market.

here is M*'s look at your fund
http://quotes.morningstar.com/fund/MAMHX/f?t=MAMHX

i would compare this with an industry-standard balanced fund such as
http://quotes.morningstar.com/fund/fbalx/f?t=FBALX

in this case it seems you are coming up short on every performance interval.

given that, you need to obtain the fund symbols for everything in your 401k, and play with M*'s InstantXray tool a bit until you get the portfolio mix/asset allocation you want.  then you can redistribute your 401k monies accordingly.  and then stick to the plan!

InstantXray how-to's/examples:
