Now this is at BAF. At the Aviation DFAC the SGM didn't let a SFC in because he had his glasses on and no eyepro. When he tried to explain that he was never issued the inserts for the eyepro the SGM said he didn't care and to find somewhere else to eat. How lame is that? Denying him food because he didn't have eyepro.

Again, it really is a miracle SGM/CSM havent been murdered by their own soldiers.

When they need defense counsel give me a call.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the panel - I give you the last set of instructions the SGM issued . . . .

This is my opinion on knee pads. I don't believe that they are protective equipment. They're a fucking comfort item. I don't believe they prevent a significant amount of injuries. Nobody can produce any kind of objective research or studies that says knee pads prevent common injuries. NO VERIFIABLE DATA. Somebody's opinion. It's not like they're ballistic either.

Talk to the Docs about the type of knee injuries they usually encounter, typically it's some sort of hyper-extension, torn ACL, or damage to the cartilage from compression (i.e. running w/ a heel-strike gait). It's rarely from direct impact. AAARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! FUCKING KNEE PADS!!!!!!!!!!! Unsprung weight, restricts free movement, traps heat. If you want to wear them because it's more comfortable when you take a knee, go right ahead, but it shouldn't bee mandatory. We have to wear them outside the wire and my Joes have to wear them on tower guard.

We even have to wear them on jumps in the rear. Last I heard, knees aren't one of the five points of contact.

Tower guard can be hell on your kneecaps.

You can't even use the "taking a knee" excuse. If you're kneeling, you can't see out of the tower.

Ludicrous.

Fuck it, more monsters for me and my guys out at the Nathan Smith shopette.

The best I saw were the MP's in Kandahar that weren't allowed to eat or drink water before 6pm during Ramadan.

My drill sergeant had done three tours as combat arms, had a scar down the length of his face, and was no-shit bi-polar. That's how they are supposed to be.

When I came home, customs rule was only MPs with a letter from their commander could bring home ASPs. No idea who thought of that faggotry.

Doubt it, those with common sense and the wherewithal to put their troops welfare first will be forced out either through attrition or by those whom hid out for the past few years getting promoted by their PT score.

My personal goal in life is to offer soldiers leadership and guidance without even 10% of the bullshit I had to deal with while I was coming up. I literally bust my ass every day trying to not be that shitbag NCO I have seen over and over. I made E6 in 5 years mostly through a burning hatred for the way my leaders were and that motivated me to do what it takes to take that spot myself. Now I have my own platoon and I will personally hammer any of my NCOs that feel entitled or who show incompetence or lack of legitimate leadership ability.

I come in early, stay late, and spend my nights and weekends doing anything I can for my soldiers. I am resolute in fixing my little corner of the army and I refuse to leave until I'm satisfied that no soldier would have to go through the same nonsense that I had to.

i guess I'm like Reservist in that I feel like I had the poorest examples of leadership possible, except instead of whining about it and trying to get out it actually makes me want to go as high up as I can.

Here's what I don't understand about a lot of silliness in the Army and the NCO Corps:

That shit should stop at the Platoon Sergeant.

Platoon Sergeant should be the best job in the world because you should have the most freedom to do things the smart way. You should be a beacon of common sense; your rater is a Lieutenant, who has not been in the Army long enough to be indoctrinated into the stupid. If you have a First Sergeant who has their head up their ass - so what. They don't rate you. Let them do the monkey dance. Blame me - the Lieutenant; he doesn't rate me either.

You do what you have to do to take care of the troops and get the job done, I'll put up the smoke screen to keep the Commander happy and out of our business. At the end of the day, the mission accomplishment and troop welfare that your common sense yields will write your 1-1 NCOER.

My first platoon sergeant understood that. The rest haven't.

Folks like us are exceedingly rare. I know my rank progression has sufferd for it(not that I care). Keep fighting that fight brother. At the end of the day the guys you took that beating for will always remember you for it. In combat, they will also follow you into hell for it with a smile on their face.

Then the insert tears up the eyepro, making them damn near blind anyway.

Camp Stryker had some pretty stupid regs in '09. My little COP in AFG was much better about minimal bullshit. Highest level of leadership present was Company, so life wasn't too bad at all. Our BN had some pretty retarded SOP's, but nothing unlivable.

No round in the chamber at our FOB. But when I'm home I keep one in the chamber 99% of the time when I carry w/o safety (Glock ccw). Police keep one in the chamber state side but at war we cant. My commander kept checking our weapons. Never felt safe with some people waliking around the FOB with AKs
